Of course, after posting this, I found that file and was able to modify the function that outputs the player code for Vimeo so that our JWPLAYER Ads Edition player loads and shows our video and the pre-roll ads based on our VAST server. For anyone else wanting to do this, swapping out the player lets the rest of the theme’s goodness remain intact and no change the user’s workflow when adding content to the site.

In our case, since we use JWPLAYER, we cannot use it to show YOUTUBE videos since they already may have pre-roll ads so we left them as is using the existing theme code to display them. Our proprietary video content, that needed to have the analytics and advertising presented is all on Vimeo so this process workflow works for us.

Additionally, we added a companion ad <div> to the sidebar of the template so the companion banner will display when the video ad plays.
