I just bought this Newspaper theme for updating of a site that has previously been using a different theme. This Newspaper seems really good. But I have a problem with the date format.

I need to format the date for Chinese like Y年m月d日 and I need that show in all the post meta — on the single.php, on the frontpage, on the archives, search, etc.

That is the normal and usual way to format dates in Chinese.

I cannot alter the date in General > Settings because that change affects negatively other things, especially syndication and RSS feed date specifications. You see, if you alter the date format in General > Settings, things may look nice on WordPress frontend, but you will face problems with synchronization and validation if you are syndicating content especially via ATOM or RSS to other sites that require the date in an acceptable format.

So that’s why I cannot alter the date format in General > Settings, and why I would rather be able to change it at the Theme level. It seems like Newspaper lacks this ability and the only way would be to one-by-one create separate child theme files for single.php, page.php, search.php, etc. to manipulate the date format on those areas. But this is not really a great solution. A better solution would be to change the date at the Theme level.

Is there any possibility that this could happen with Newspaper? Any method to add a function? Other themes I’ve used for other projects sometimes have a date format field to change it within the theme only.
