I faced a similar issue as well. I was trying to upgrade our website from Newspaper 9.7.2 to 11.4.3, and WPBakery Page Builder from 5.5.2 to (latest version used in Newspaper 11.4.3).

The following steps worked for me (using latest version of WordPress 5.9.3):

1. Activate WordPress default theme (Twenty Twenty Two)
2. Deactivate then delete Newspaper 9.7.2
3. Deactivate then delete WP Bakery Page Builder 5.5.2
4. Install then activate WP Bakery Page Builder in Newspaper 11.4.3 (from Newspaper folder > code > other_plugins > js_composer.zip)
5. Install then activate Newspaper 11.4.3 (using Newspaper.zip)
6. Install/Update theme plugins, especially Standard Pack plugin

I just realized that due to copy-and-pasting, I missed out a few lines and that screwed up functions.php ><

After fixing it, everything works fine now.

Hi, I’ve realised what the issue was, it was because the testing website that I’m using to test it has http authentication enabled, and that screwed it up. After I removed http authentication, I could manage to install the theme plugins. Sorry for the false alarm! ><
