I found the issue. When I was loading images from the media library, they were coming over cropped. Inserted the actual url for the image I wanted and it now works.

I did do a clean install via FTP with the latest version about a week ago.

I ended up loading the recently updated Newspaper7 theme as well as the included child theme via FTP and that did the trick. Thank you for addressing my question and providing me a solution.
