Which Thumbnail Is Used for Featured Images on Homepage

So I noticed that my rectangular featured image for my Hello World! post shows up as rectangular still in the post listing on my homepage. My square featured image for my Limon review post shows up as square still in the post listing on my homepage which is great bc it didn’t crop well to rectangular (it’s a collage) and a previous theme I was using was forcing a rectangular shape and choosing how to display it however it wanted. For my third post, Cheddar-Black Pepper Crackers, I noticed that while my featured image is a square photo, it’s showing up as rectangular in the post listing on my homepage. I think it looks fine the way it’s cropped (possibly even better than if it were showing the full square image), but I’d like to know how to choose how the image is displayed or if I can crop myself different versions for the display. I have the Post Thumbnail Editor which I used with my previous theme to do various crops of an image for different types of displays but I’m not sure which ones are used where. And I’d like to know when the post listing decides to go with the square image versus cropping it to rectangular because it was a pleasant surprise for me to see it able to do both. Actually interestingly when I’m in the tagDiv Composer, the preview display shows all of the images as rectangular (with my Limon collage being cropped weirdly) but like I said on the site itself it somehow is showing up as the square image which is how it looks best.

I’m using Block 13 for the listing of posts on my homepage.

My website is http://www.pandasbelly.com if you’d like to see how the featured images are being displayed.

I think the square featured image on my main page was some sort of weird glitch because I see now that they’re all showing up as rectangular now.

I’d still like to know what the thumbnail is called that’s being used and if there’s a way for me to choose what portion of the image is being displayed then because it’s not necessarily picking the best part of the image. I think I’d be able to do that with the Post Thumbnail Editor but need to know what the thumbnail is called to crop it myself.

Hi,

The theme uses modules to display posts on pages, these modules form blocks and grids. A block or grid can contain multiple module types
https://forum.tagdiv.com/theme-blocks-modules/

Each of the modules has a predefined thumbnail size
https://forum.tagdiv.com/theme-thumbs/

The necessary thumbnails will be created from the featured images or videos you set for posts
https://forum.tagdiv.com/featured-image-or-video/
A center-top cropping is used when creating the thumbnails
https://forum.tagdiv.com/featured-image/

The resulting thumbnails are also affected by the image aspect ratio
https://forum.tagdiv.com/thumbnails-vs-featured-image-size/
So different modules can have different results with the same image. You can choose what block types you use, also the modules used where they are present.

I see you are using block 13 on your homepage, by editing the page with the tagDiv composer you can add/remove blocks and configure them
https://forum.tagdiv.com/block-settings-guide/

So to summarize the thumbnails cannot be resized with a theme option, you can change module/block type but not the thumbnail size.

Please correct me if I misunderstand something.

Thanks
