Update from "Newspaper 8.0" to "9". How to do it?

We have a “Newspaper 8.0” theme and want to upgrade to the last version “9” how to do it securely?

We updated to the latest version (we tried all methods)… but then we had to restore to the old version 🙁

The homepage was always like this:

Homepage editor had this error:
