Does this happen everytime there is a wordpress update? Should we never update? I manage 52 wordpress websites and this is the ONLY theme that completely brakes every time???

For your issue is the requirement of only activating the standard pack plugin !

The best way to update the Newspaper Theme is to delete the current Newspaper Theme version and TagDiv Plugins and after that you can install the new version.

Overwriting files will cause conflicts.
