I believe that I misunderstand the question, you were referring to the smartslider but I thanked to smart list, sorry!
When you say smartslider I believe you are referring to sliders -> https://i.imgur.com/Q7vp8VU.png the first 2 are from the theme and the last one is from revolution slier -> https://i.imgur.com/Q7vp8VU.png -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/import-revolution-sliders-on-demos-prebuilt-websites/

what I mean is using the smartslider 3 plug-in within the newspaper theme.
smartslider 3 is one of the most popular slider programs on the market, see https://smartslider3.com/
I did a litle investigation myself and I think that the slider shortcode has to be placed on the page in order to display the slider.
Is there an easy way to do that?

Now, I understand what you mean. Do you want to us an extra plugin, the smartslider 3 plugin. If this provide shortcodes, then you need to use it to display the results. The shortcode can be set using the tagDiv Composer in raw html, column text and text with title elements -> https://imgur.com/xn721m6 -> https://imgur.com/D475ZN0
