we have ‘No preloading'(default) option selected for main menu, yet article thumbnails are getting loaded eagerly before any action is taken. This affects our SEO scoring, is it intended behaviour?
We are running 12.6.6 Newspaper theme version,
Turning off all plugins and child theme did not solve the problem.

These images in the menu’s submenu https://ibb.co/HGRnLH8
are loaded instantly upon site visit, which I would assume shouldn’t be the case without a preloading setting checked.

Hello, is there any option to do that for default menu, i.e the one that comes with the theme, without using cloud/PRO templates? we would much rather stay with our current one.
Also isn’t this actually a bug? The resources you have linked state that with ‘No preloading’ option turned on, it shouldnt fetch anything without user interaction yet it loads everything from the get-go, no matter which option is picked

No. You should use cloud templates. In No preloading option, the theme will make an Ajax request on each click on a filter. After the request is made, the theme is using a browser cache to store the result and not make an additional request for the same resource until the page is reloaded.
