This is the question I have.
If I update my theme (through any method – wordpress, ftp, or envato), will I lose any of my previous settings? Particularly the sidebars, widgets, ad codes, typography, and all sorts of things?

Just make sure to do a back-up in case something goes wrong. It also depends on what version you are updating from. If you still use version 4, then some things will not work, as version 6 is a totally different theme. A few options got removed and a few more got implemented. Follow the steps in the tutorial above and things should workout.

So, this how I am going to do:
1. Backup the complete database.
2. Download latest theme file.
3. Deactivate and delete the old file.
4. Install and activate the new theme file.
5. Run the update script to import old settings.
I’m just not sure about the update script, do I have to run before or after deleting the old theme?
And, will this update script include all my settings? Like the fonts, color schemes, sidebars and other stuff?

The update script can be run after you update to the new theme version as it’s function is to convert the shortcodes used by the old theme. Unfortunately there is a hick-up in this process. The update script was removed in the 6.6 version so our advice is to send an email at contact@tagdiv.com so we can provide the previous version of the theme which contains the update script. After you run the script you can update to the latest version.

Well, the update script, if you ask for it, migrates many of the existing settings from old theme to new one. You can then tweak a few of the home page modules for the new system. Not terribly painful. it’s a whole new theme, but the updater scriptlet helps with that quite a bit. You might also need to reset a couple of modules in sidebar(s). But a lot of the normal settings are saved through the WP transients just like any “same theme” update, vs upgrade. it’s only the things that totally changed which require some tweaks.
Of course, always keep backups via FTP, and your mysql dbase so you can “go back” if you mess things up too badly.

I’ve requested the last version of newspaper 6 which had update script.
So, is this how I should go after this:
1. Delete old theme.
2. Install this version of newspaper 6
3. Run update script (to get my settings back)
4. And then again update that particular version to the latest one
Am I going right guys?
My worry and problem is the same as SheikhOvais.
When I update via the toolkit, will I loose my previous settings?

@SheikhOvais Yes. That would be the right way to go about it. Just make sure to do a back-up first.
@munguti Most settings will remain as they are kept in the DB. You can also request the theme version via email so you can run the update script as it is not included in the current version. Please make sure you back-up before attempting to update so you will be able to revert if something goes wrong.

Updated to 6.5. Run the update script. Regenerated thumbnails. No images on site (including thumbnails, blog post images, everything).
What could be the issue?

This usually happens when there is a conflict with the theme js. Usually plugins cause this error. Some plugins might not work with our theme anymore (in the current version) even if they worked in version 4. Please try to disable all your plugins except visual composer and check your site again. (also clear cache)

This didn’t help. PLEASE check solve this problem for me ASAP. I’m losing a lot of visitors because of this.
So far, theme is appears to be working fine on IE, and mobile chrome browser. But on desktom chrome and also on firefox, no images in my posts are visible.

Please try to disable the lazy load from Theme panel->Template settings->Lazy load like this: http://screencast.com/t/vQzewW7wcLuV Also, please try to disable all the active plugins, except Visual Composer, clear all cache and install only the plugins that come bundled with our theme and try again. After these changes, if your problem is still there, please let us know.

In this case, maybe you are using a lot of plugins and one of them causes some java script errors. You can use this feature on the future if you are able to identify which plugin affect the theme and causes this conflict.
