Hi! I wonder if its possible to reduce the space between elements in te theme. See the link provided where I have marked the space I want to reduce with red spots.
The same goes for the mobile version – to much space between everything.
And THANKS for a wonderful theme. I am confident it will be superb when I am finished tweaking π
Thanks Christopher. I took a look at mod_pagespeed, but it doesnt look like it could do anything for me at this point. I’m already on a VPS that runs Plesk 11 with nginx as a reverse proxy. I’m letting nginx handle all php scripts and serve static and dynamic content. Gzip compression is enabled and i enabled browser caching through nginx with the expiration set to two weeks. I’m running WP Super Cache as well to create pre cached pages and i use EWWWW Image Optimizer to optimize all images. I also optimazed all theme and plugin images with that plugin. You might want to look it up, imo it really is a better plugin than smush.it and so. I use the simple minify plugin to minify all javascripts and i my pagespeed currently toggles between 85 en 92 for desktop, depending on my server response time and between 70 and 80 for mobile. The only red warning i still get is to defer javascript and css (moste google fonts, and 3 theme css files: bootstrap, style.css and child theme style.css) to below the fold, but i have no experience on how to do that. Im really pleased with the pagespeed right now, but more tips (besides using a CDN) are welcome!
Thanks for you responce anyway π
Hello,
I see that you have an old theme version. We optimized the touch for mobiles, please update to latest version 2.3
Thanks for the message!
Hey guys,
Love the newspaper theme.
We have implemented it on our site http://www.theminerissue.com.au
During user testing I noticed that the scroll function on mobile version does not work very well in the android native browser. It seems to work for every other browser using android galaxy note and also on iphone 3GS and 4. Any ideas why the problem only exists on the native browser?
Any help from tagDiv or the community would be great
Cheers
Editor@TMI
I have just purchased the Newspaper theme and am working on the full size header (style 3) rather than having a logo. I have this working fine (I think!) on my desktop computer but I have a couple of issues with both the retina display on a Mac and also on the mobile version.
Am I uploading the image correctly by having it in the top header ad section (using a size of 1170×110 for the img size) and if I do this can I still use the responsive version of the site for mobile etc?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
Chris
Hello,
Please check on the footer widget the retina logo have an incorrect image link: http://lsport.nl/wp-content/themes/Newspaper/images/demo/logo-footer-retina.png
See here: http://screencast.com/t/7FZjw0bf
Thanks!
Hello,
Your site is set to be no responsive. Please go to Theme Customizer -> Template Option http://screencast.com/t/QdSUaOPMs
Thanks!
Hi there Marius, apologizes for my late reply but I had to go and purchase hosting for the site.
The site URL is: http://lsport.nl/
Screenshots from my HTC (Broken BG and footer logo mainly):
1) http://imgur.com/hHkgYh6
2) http://imgur.com/LVa03CH
Please explain me how I can show mobile users my site as if they were browsing it on the computer, and how to fix the broken footer image.
Thank you for this wonderful theme, I hope you can help me with this little issue.
Thanks.
Thanks r1kay for that mobile support π
I tried that approach before, but it’s limited to being able to post the review before or after the content.
The way this function is setup now is pretty nice because it takes care of everything without having to edit the theme files (or having to edit them again when the theme gets updated).
I’m sure there’s a way to call the review into a function.
Hello,
See here: https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-manage-the-mobile-theme/
Thanks!
Hello,
I am trying to translate the phrase “If you’re not happy with the results, please do another search” in the theme options-translations, but if I save the changes the German translation disappears and the English phrase will be displayed again.
Another problem: The mobile version of my website does not show the titles in the slider on the front page.
Here you can find my website: http://www.mode-welt-online.de
Kind regards
Susanne
Hello,
Do you want to have the non responsive version, the desktop version to be on mobile to but without big slider.
Select from Theme customizer this http://screencast.com/t/KBgzA5r1 and add this in style.css
@media (max-width: 767px) {
.home .td_block_slide_big {
display: none;
}
}
Thanks!
Hello,
Go to Theme Customizer -> Template Options and set like here: http://screencast.com/t/KBgzA5r1
Thanks for the message!
Happy New Year 2014!!!
Hi there guys,
I am very satisfied with this theme but would like to know one thing:
How do I properly remove the mobile version without destroying anything else? I do not like it and want my mobile users to be able to view the site as if they were on their computer, so with a background and all that good stuff.
Thanks for reading and a happy new year to all of you!
Happy New Year to you also π
My hope is to be a better person for myself and others this year, revitalize my own business which took a bit of a hit the past 2 years due to economy in U.S.
My hope for this particular theme is that you continue to develop and focus on it being a newspaper/magazine theme and not a “one size fits all” theme (e.g., most magazines are not stores, so wasting a ton of time on ecommerce stuff can detract from optimization for magazine and newspaper publishing things which the theme is focused on). I’d love to see a CSS style map of post page elements to make it easy to customize some things using custom.css or append to child theme style.css etc. (e.g., Google now wants to see UX enhancements for mobile and is whining about the breadcrumb, headline, and “categories” buttons above featured photo being too close together so I now need to make the category buttons larger with more space around them so they can be “tappable” … sigh).
You’ve done a great job with this product, and here’s hoping for your continued success!
Chris
So first of all I’d like to thank you for creating an awesome theme. It really is doing its job on practically every level and so far I’ve encountered only 3 things that do not really suit me.
1. The scroll on mobiles is absolutely horrible for me (tested on Galaxy SII with android 4.1). Instead of going smoothly it’s choppy and requires me to tap the screen repeatedly to scroll up/down. Pointing out that the problem is not only on my site, same thing happens with your demo.
2. My website is in Polish so it requires usage of foreign letters (Δ , Ε etc.). All the letters appear just fine but when I turn on the tagDiv speed booster, the letters suddenly go lowercase arial (they’re just no longer being formatted).
3. Despite enabling the speed booster, google pagespeed is still throwing out that there is a ton of render blocking js/css (especially on mobile).
If you could help me resolve those 2 issues, I’m honestly giving 11/10 to this theme. Will immensely appreciate it!
@mmcmsp I will see what we can do about that
@BigN0701 sorry for the delay, I hope you solve the problem
@Marija1m1 It was not resolved π it’s a issue that is hunting us for quite some time …. it drive me crazy and it’s hard to debug because it appears just sometimes.
@sbo I will update the theme forest details page shortly.
v 2.1.3
* fixed an ugly bug with slugs that begin with span row and container
* fixed pinterest button media
* improved adsense synchronous ads
* fixed rss excerpt not respecting the wordpress option
* small code improvements
* better windows phone 8 compatibility
* better responsive videos (including dailymotion)
* Better mobile (windows phone 8 and android) expirience on our demo
Hi Christopher, I was just about to ask you to help me with image sizes! lol
I was reading through all your speed up website stuff (spent last 2 days getting my basic website (with enfold theme) up to high numbers) it started of low but now have it at 80/100 mobile and 92/100 for desktop via Google page speed, and GTMetrix is now 99% and 92% and I wont be using CDN at this time so don’t expect to get much higher on the Yslow Grade.
Thanks for helping with the images, my website is at a standstill as I could not work out the images and kept trying to find a plugin and was looking at scripts and hating it! lol
Dont suppose you are able to answer any of my other problems? So wish I had not added the theme, my other one was set up perfectly, but I felt it was leaking juice all over the place and this site looked like it would be fast out of the box and leek less juice and work well for a silo, but now I just have to hide it and know it could be what I am still trying to fix on xmas day instead of having fun!
Hello,
Do you use Child theme and added that css in style.css and not work? The Child theme should work, strange π
If you want you can give us access to your WP and we will take a look. Send via email at contact@tagdiv.com
Please add For Marius in subject and also put a link to this message in email.
Thanks for the message!
Hi Marius,
You guys are very helpful.. thanks for the support.
Thank you for showing me the logo area.. I will remember that area in the future.. the theme is so robust. π
Slider.. I understand now.
I added the code to my child theme style.css but I don’t see a change. I refreshed multiple times. Using an iphone to test. Any thoughts?
Thanks again for the help. You are awesome.
Will
Hello,
1. Go to Theme customizer -> Header and try with -10 like here http://screencast.com/t/7VIpUoacMse
2. Add this in style.css
.mobile-logo-wrap img {
top: 1px !important;
width: 132px !important;
}
3. The big slider work like on desktop you have 1 slide(4 post) on mobile will be 1 slide to(but only with 1 post) What you can do is to increase the post number on the big slide 4post – 1 slide, 8 post – 2 slides, 12 posts – 3 slides.
Thanks for your message
Hi guys,
I noticed a few bugs and wanted to point them out. See if there is a solution.. I have been playing with it for a while but can’t figure it out. fantastic theme by the way. π
Site by the way is : flyfishforfun.com
1. Logo on my page is 300 x 100 as documentation required but the logo sites flush with bottom of header area and has uneven space on top. not sure if it should be centered vertically or if the header top and bottom area should touch the logo. (See screenshot: http://www.screencast.com/t/CpEaVitGEsN )
2. Mobile: The logo overlays on the header and doesn’t resize properly. I just updated to 2.1 from themeforest a week ago I believe. http://www.screencast.com/t/1BlhPrtVamIk
3. Mobile: I have the bg slider going and when I view on mobile the slider doesn’t slide to other slides. (Neither finger swipe or using arrows work.) You can click on the blog link and it will take you to the blog that is the main featured article.. but no functionality other than that.
Not sure if I have settings wrong somewhere, but I have looked through documentation and support forum and tried suggestions from other post but haven’t had success yet.
Any help or advice would be appreciated. I will also say that I was having page speed issues earlier but the new version has made it light years faster for me personally.. so kudos.. not sure if you did anything to it.. but it is noticeably faster for me. THANKS!!!!!
I hope everyone has a great day!!
Will
Ps still working on my site.. if anyone has suggestions to make the layout better.. please let me know. I am happy to listen to advice from the community. π
It works for me. I use it to make the author box mini bios “smaller” since I make rest of the site text larger for better mobile/desktop experience, but then the bio gets huge.
Check that you’re stating the proper style, and class, and format that properly in the style.css file
e.g., to make the author box text a wee bit smaller (I made page text 15px);
.author-box-wrap .desc { font-size:13px; line-height:1.4em; }
OH… sorry, meant to say also, be sure you actually “activate” the child theme as your main theme … simply putting stuff in child folder won’t do anything unless you “activate” the Newspaper-child as your theme instead of Newspaper. This is one thing a lot of folks miss when working with child themes first time. π

Hello,
omg… π why on my iphone5 is aligned and yours not http://screencast.com/t/R9sogwmbLXz1
What theme version you have, we released one with the fix. Please send me a screenshot from your iphone.
I just launched the new theme on my site.
http://www.theinspiration.com/
I get 85/100 on Desktop and 70/100 on mobile in GPS.
https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.theinspiration.com%2F&tab=desktop
DESKTOP:
I really would like to optimize where I can. I use pretty large images on the site ( I know that), and I really would not like to compress them any more.
How do I?
A) Eliminate render-blocking JavaScript and CSS in above-the-fold content
– can I move javascript below the fold?
B) Leverage browser caching.
– I have FB and twitter buttons on the site, does this slow it down a lot?
C) Expiring Header.
– I am pretty confused about how much I could “save” By doing it
When I optimize something and test the site I get the same results.
Does GPS cache results?
