Just wanted to “share” this (ironically)…. one of the coolest things I’ve seen in responsive share buttons.

Hi,
Do you mean like this? http://screencast.com/t/uwhkTzw8

If you want that replace this file in \includes\modules

@nihar105479
wow. Really amazing.

Would you mind sharing how you achieved the score, specifically? Overall the pages load very slow from here in Calif., USA, but once loaded, everything is quick.

I notice today the PageSpeed Insights is down, but of course that is their pesky suggestions on stuff with your site being 76/mobile and 89/desktop and their own content causing issues, along with the normal social media bugs.

Great score on GTMetrix! 🙂

Hello,

I’d like to know where is the code for calling out $buffy …. get_social_sharing()

I’ld like to change the social icons from buttons to Box counts.

Assuming you are using module 1, you would edit your includes/modules/td_module_1.php file.

Find the section of code that looks like this(mine starts at line 49):

            if ($this->show_excerpt === true) { //module 7 uses this
                $buffy .= '<p>' . $this->get_excerpt(td_util::get_option('tds_' . 'mod7_content_excerpt')) . '</p>';
                $buffy .= '<div class="more-link-wrap wpb_button td_read_more clearfix">';
                $buffy .= '<a href="' . $this->href . '">' . __td('Continue', TD_THEME_NAME) . '</a>';
                $buffy .= '</div>';
            } else {
                $buffy .= $this->get_content();
            }

            $buffy .= '<footer class="clearfix">';
                $buffy .= $this->get_post_pagination();
                $buffy .= $this->get_review();
                $buffy .= $this->get_the_tags();
                $buffy .= $this->get_source_and_via();
                $buffy .= $this->get_social_sharing();
                $buffy .= $this->get_next_prev_posts();
                $buffy .= $this->get_author_box();
            $buffy .= '</footer>';

and replace it with this:

            if ($this->show_excerpt === true) { //module 7 uses this
                $buffy .= '<p>' . $this->get_excerpt(td_util::get_option('tds_' . 'mod7_content_excerpt')) . '</p>';
                $buffy .= '<div class="more-link-wrap wpb_button td_read_more clearfix">';
                $buffy .= '<a href="' . $this->href . '">' . __td('Continue', TD_THEME_NAME) . '</a>';
                $buffy .= '</div>';
            } else {
                $buffy .= $this->get_content();
                $buffy .= $this->get_author_box();
            }

            $buffy .= '<footer class="clearfix">';
                $buffy .= $this->get_post_pagination();
                $buffy .= $this->get_review();
                $buffy .= $this->get_the_tags();
                $buffy .= $this->get_source_and_via();
                $buffy .= $this->get_social_sharing();
                $buffy .= $this->get_next_prev_posts();
            $buffy .= '</footer>';

Hi,

I’ve looked at the site and I think that the booster plugin is not working as expected. The resources seem to come from cdn.your domain .Are you using mod pagespeed or some kind of cdn optimizer?

I will try to test the WPSocialite + speedbooster and if it works well we will update the plugin.

PS. Marius is making the stars now for you now – sorry for the delay.

@Christopher
– I agree with you, any social sharing badge that shows the number of likes/tweets etc comes with a cost :). There is one solution – to call the like tweets via api on server (like our social counter does) but like the social counter is very hard to maintain and it will have to make server side requests to the apis periodically for each post… that is not good. It’s almost impossible to deploy such such a thing to a lot of users and hosts combinations but I will experiment a bit with this 🙂 .

Hahaha i did it finally, i have social sharing buttons with PageSpeed %100 🙂
the Radu’s suggestion is finally works i have write the css id wrong, i fixed it and it works.
Use WPSocialite plugin and add it to tag speed booster plugin for move footer 🙂 (you have to do the “When Scroll, Run js” from the plugins settings.)

@radu
you have to sticky that post because every one have to solve that Social Sharing PageSpeed problem 🙂

Best Regards

Most of the issues with social sharing are issues with the actual social media sites and their code which must be loaded by the theme to do things like “call” number of likes — that isn’t done by the theme. So, some things are impossible to “optimize” as they are not PageSpeed friendly. This also includes AdSense, ReCaptcha, YouTube, etc.

“the best social sharing codes” are those provided by each social media outlet with async loading; but the elements are still loading from that other site which you have zero control over.

For best PageSpeed you would need to use something like a single pill button from AddThis, or create locally hosted icon images which only “post” to the social media sites and have no interaction such as showing number of likes/shares — all that data coming from those sites like Twitter, FB, and G+ will cause PageSpeed issues.

Just some info on that. I’ve spent a ton of time on this issue and there is no perfect solution, unfortunately.

I did like you said but still pageinsight analyze is saying that .css file is working before content 🙁
you can check it here
why don’t you use the best social sharing codes in the Newspaper, i am sorry because i have to find plugins solve for that. please optimize the social sharing codes in newspaper and save us 🙁

Hello!

1. Is there a way to disable the slider on all categories. We have too many of them to be doing it manually on each one. I tried modifying category.php but couldn’t find the slider option in there.

2.Is it possible to have a narrow sidebar in posts right under the image with author info and sharing buttons. I am attaching a screenshot which shows better what I mean: http://greece.greekreporter.com/files/Screen-Shot-2014-02-03-at-6.13.28-%CE%BC.%CE%BC.png

Thank you so much!

Hello,

Thanks for your help, please also guide me where to change these social sharing buttons style. I want to replace these ones with other styling buttons

@circuitsports, you need to go into the backend which would be
/wp-content/themes/Newspaper/includes/app/modules/td_module_1.php

Insert this code:
$buffy .= $this->get_social_sharing();

Above this code
$buffy .= $this->get_content();

@Marius
, is there a way to add the share on the individual images that are in the post gallery? What is the individual image file?

Thanks!

Additional Info: The added parameters to my valid post urls are coming from my social profiles, like google+, facebook and twitter.

I already disabled jetpack sharing, the share buttons of the theme and the tagdiv social plugin….but that didn’t solve the case that my posts are available via multiple URLS.

Does anybody else have the same problem?

Hello! Wondering if you could help me add a bit of code to my posts. Here’s what I want to do …

I have a ZergNet content sharing account. I would like to add the Zergnet code so that it appears on the bottom of every post on my site, after the post content and before the comments, like in the highlighted area in this image example .

Where do I place the code for this to happen? Thanks! Still loving the theme.

Hi Christopher,

Thanks for the idea. But I do want to know how to edit the single.php file to add it directly.

simchris
tagDiv Member

The simplest way at the moment, which is what I did, is to turn off the function in the theme customizer under posts; then install the AddThis plugin and set that to “print” at top of the post, which appears below featured image. This was simplest thing without hacking the current theme. Might not be what you want, but if you’re looking for ‘easy’ this is one way to do it 🙂

How can I put social sharing icons on top of the article instead of having it only below?

May I ask what to do before they can have such an WooCommerce theme? Thank you

Nevermind, I found a piece of code to remove it. If anyone else is looking for this solution, here is the code.

remove_filter( 'the_content', 'sharing_display', 19 );

Just place it before the_content().

I have article sharing hidden for posts. But they still appear for custom post types. How can I hide them from custom post types as well?
