I’ve tested and the smart sidebar works fine, is the case when the sidebar is longer then windows size and when you scroll down the sidebar stick at the bottom, then if you scroll to up you will see all the sidebar and when the sidebar is over will stick on top until you get on top of the page.

You asked on the wrong section, this is Newsmag.
The Ads>Posts>Post Template style 1 is not related to the More Articles Box, to add custom code inside that area you have to edit the file which generates it, you can find it here – http://screencast.com/t/HwRuyTYU5Sjc

The smart sidebar just keeps the sidebar sticky (it follows you when you scroll down). If it’s a long sidebar it scrolls down to it’s end. Not sure what you mean with that image, please provide more details. The layout has to be set from the widget section or from the page (if you use visual composer to create 2/3 + 1/3 columns).

Before update please backup the site (database and files) – https://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Backups

We recommend to remove theme via FTP and install the new one and also the plugins that come with the theme files, you can find them it in the theme package inside the Plugins folder – http://screencast.com/t/lkrma6blYE
After the update run the script included in the Welcome panel – http://screencast.com/t/eZxxuqvsTir running the script it will import old settings, change the shortcode like you can see in the documentation. The theme has more features(example- big grid on categories, smartsidebar) so you will have to set those mannually. Also the custom css may not work at this it should be regarded as a new theme(changed classes, ids).

In Newspaper (v5.0) we will include most of the features from Newsmag like smart sidebar feature,smart lists, some new post templates and blocks/module(as you can see in our demo Newsmag has more blocks and post styles than Newspaper). Also the Newspaper will be a bit larger as you can see right now Newspaper’s grid width is 1170px while Newsmag’s width comes around 1021px.

Newsticker block is included only in Newsmag theme, but we’re also working on a major update for Newspaper (v5.0) which will include most of the features from Newsmag like smart sidebar feature,smart lists or some of the post templates. The option for page ID to be megamenu is added only for Newsmag for the moment, but this feature will be available also Newspaper 5 version.
The functionality and performance are similar. The main differences are in designs/appearances and the content area width which slightly differs from one theme to another, Newspaper’s grid width is 1170px while Newsmag’s width comes around 1021px. Other differences are also appear regarding features, some of the blocks are present on one and missing on the other, as well as some other features like smart sidebar feature,smart lists or some of the post templates. We’re also working on a major update for Newspaper (v5.0) which will include most of the features from Newsmag.

Please check if you have this issue with smartsidebar also without any plugins active, leave only Visual Composer active and clear cache. Also test it without js/css minification.
About loading time please test your pagespeed https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/ and try to fix those errors.
