1,000 of 404 pages with URL slug /switching-plans-wizard/ created by theme.

Dear Support Team,

the activation of your theme has created thousands of 404-pages on my site. This, in fact, hurts my SEO rankings.

For instance, it creates pages with URL slug …/switching-plans-wizard/ added to them automatically for many URLs.

Example: https://www.dating-vergleich.com/kategorien/spezielle-singleboersen/russische-singles/switching-plans-wizard/ is created for category page https://www.dating-vergleich.com/kategorien/spezielle-singleboersen/russische-singles/

Then, it creates thousands of links to these error pages.

Please kindly check the following screenshot:

Wizard ULRs

As I do not understand this feature, how can I deactivate it completely in your theme?

Thanks for a brief feedback!

Kind regards
Joachim

Hello Joachim!

This is from the Opt-in Builder plugin. Can be found in pages: https://prnt.sc/2S0cJean6xV1
Make sure it is not set in a URL field (tagdiv Composer).

Thank you!

Dear Bettina,

thank you for your quick reply! I understand that there is this pricing page (accessible under https://www.dating-vergleich.com/switching-plans-wizard/). This is fine and this URL is not contained in any tagDiv Composer.

The problem is, that the theme has apparently created thousands of pages with this slug, e.g.

This should not be the case. There seems to be a technical issue with the theme or an important setting that I am missing.

Further, the theme has created many 404-error-pages with following slugs:

/bookmark-page/, /tagdiv/, /tagdivofficial/.

Please see following ahrefs screenshot (column = Target URL):

ahrefs 404 pages and slugs

Could you please recheck?

Thank you
Joachim

Hello Joachim!

Please uninstall the mobile theme and amp because amp creates those URLs.

Thank you!

Dear Bettina,

as I like the concept of the mobile theme and AMP pages, it would be a pity to deactivate them. Isn’t there another configuration or tweaking option to hinder them from creating those URLs?

According to your documentation, the AMP option should only create slugs with /amp/ added to the post URLs. I don’t understand why the other slug endings are created or whether they have a function at all.

Kind regards
Joachim

Hello Joachim!

Check this guide: https://forum.tagdiv.com/tagdiv-amp-plugin-tutorial/ and set up only the posts.

Thank you!

I have deactivated mobile theme and AMP pages for testing, now.

However, the links to the 404 pages are still there. After investigating the source code for the desktop version of the theme, I have found following section:

Here, these problematic links are inserted in the header section. However, the links are not visible (i.e. hidden) on the rendered web pages and I cannot find them in the tagdiv composer templates.

Do you have a clue how to remove them and why/how they are inserted?

Post count: 21065

Hello Joachim!

We also have the 404 templates, which can be modified in the TagDiv Composer: https://forum.tagdiv.com/cloud-library-templates/ (see 404 templates).
If you use the Coaching PRO header, then these are the elements from your header: https://prnt.sc/EnkC-wzg-OBe
Delete the ones you do not want there.

Thank you!

Dear Bettina,

please kindly note that I do not use the Coaching PRO header. Editing 404 templates does not solve the issue.

The links are inserted into the page header automatically by the theme.

Please recheck it?

Post count: 19

Please take a look at this section of the source code of any website page:

<div class="tds-button td-fix-index"><span class="tdm-btn-text">See pricing</span><i class="tdm-btn-icon td-icon-arrow-right-rounded"></i></div></div>

These links are inserted automatically. However, if you check a page in desktop browser (not in mobile theme), let’s say:

https://www.dating-vergleich.com/

There is no such button or link visible. So it seems to be hidden somehow. This really hurts my SEO and Google rankings, as hidden links (leading to 404 error pages) are a negative ranking factor and should by all means be avoided.

Maybe the classes of this div block of the code section gives your technical team a hint where and how it is inserted by the theme.

Hello Joachim!

This code seems to be an element from the Opt-in builder. If I inspect the homepage, I can see that there is a modal pop-up element that contains this button.

Thank you!

Post count: 19

I am sorry, but this is still not the solution.

The only modal on the homepage is the newsletter optin. This does not contain the problematic code.

Further, it appears on every single page in the frontend.

Please see this code snippet:

<div id="tdm-popup-modal-menu" class="tdm-popup-modal-wrap tdm-popup-modal-over-screen" style=""><div class="tdm-popup-modal-bg"></div><div class="tdm-popup-modal td-theme-wrap"><div class="tdm-pm-header"><div class="tdm-pmh-close">

It seems to me as if it is implemented in the header/menu section. However, I cannot find it in the cloud templates.

I have checked any field one by one without any result. How can I locate it eventually?

Post count: 21065

Hello Joachim!

The code appear once. You need to have this element in the tagdiv Composer: https://prnt.sc/2jirgQ8saHKR or https://prnt.sc/CVnEZuEb-LHp (it looks like a button if you enable the button as a trigger.

Thank you!

Post count: 19

Dear Bettina,

please understand that I have checked any templated created with tagdiv composer. There is no such modal button.

The code appears on any page (posts, pages, homepage, category pages, archive pages, …). So, it is universally included in the theme.

In the code surrounding the links, I can find classes like “td-coaching-mm” which indicates that the Coaching header has been used. This, in fact, has never been the case.

So, I assume there is a technical glitch with the theme and I would be really grateful if someone of your team could take a look.

Thank you!

I have the same issue. Will anyone be able to share how it was resolved?

Hello @Sikandar!

There was a hidden modal popup element in the mobile viewport that should be deleted.

Thank you!

Hi Bettina, I have the same issue. Hundreds of post URLs were appended with /tds-switching-plans-wizard. How to solve the issue / get rid of these?

Post count: 29

As an addition to my previous post I’m seeing twice a reference to tds-switching-plans-wizard in the header section of my pages

<div class="tds-button td-fix-index"><a
href="tds-switching-plans-wizard/"
title="Subscribe"
class="tds-button1 tdm-btn tdm-btn-sm tdi_22" ><span class="tdm-btn-text">Subscribe</span></div>

<div class="tds-button td-fix-index"><a
href="tds-switching-plans-wizard/"
title="Subscribe"
class="tds-button1 tdm-btn tdm-btn-sm tdi_33" ><span class="tdm-btn-text">Subscribe</span></div>

I don’t see a subscribe button on the front-end. Is it hidden? I don’t need this. How to get rid of these additions in the header?

The code above clarifies why hundreds of pages get created with tds-switching-plans-wizard behind it! This should be fixed in the theme.

I believe the subscribe button was available in the header when I installed the Free News theme as you can see here https://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper_free_news_pro/

Is it possible it became hidden somehow by editing the header in the composer? Anyway can I unhide the button / activate it again and then hard remove it from header to get rid of the code?

Please advise asap. Thanks.

Hello @stev1972!

Enable this option to see the hidden elements in the tagdiv Composer: https://imgur.com/OkfpxSL
Check on all viewports: https://app.screencast.com/JHEh5VCjD339t

I hope that helps you!

Thank you!
