We can’t figure out why the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th level category (we didn’t check 5th, 6th) not showing 404 and only first level:

After many tests, we found the main reason why its happened.
It is related to permalink setup. If you don’t want to show Category base in WordPress, replace it with “.” that works fantastic on the first level but 2nd,3rd, or 4th level with the theme and mega menu not working.
As soon as we remove the “.” we manage to fix most of our problems, but it creates a different situation.
we still want the site to map:
/parenting/
/level1
/level1/level-1
/level1/level-1/ /level1/level-1-1-2
One solution is to create a CPT:
