I want to add a category filter in the search bar, so that users can choose results from the category they want. how to do that. Please advice.

You can use Flex Loop Filters, but these filter work only on the Flex Loop Block https://forum.tagdiv.com/filters-sorting-taxonomies/

But what i am trying to achieve is to provide a category selection dropdown near the search bar so that users can select the category they want results from. See below link for details;

Yes, you can use that element, and the flex loop block works like posts loop.
