I am still using Newspaper 7.5 After upgrading to WordPress 4.8 my tagdiv Social counter plugin doesn’t change facebook count and also I just noted one of my posts which had more than a thousand facebook likes now shows 0 likes!
Do you think this had got something to do with not upgrading to Newspaper 8?

You will have to update the theme and the social counter as you are using an older version that will not work anymore in the new facebook code. Facebook changes it;s code regularly and any at all facebook related feature must be adapted to the new code. You will not be able to use an older version of the social countere. Thanks. Finally I upgraded from 7.8.1 to 8.1 today. Looks like our Facebook likes have gone for good. Doesn’t look like a theme issue. Perhaps something to do with facebook. I noted the Like count restarting from 0 on some other post/s also. Whatever the reason, it’s completely crazy. Anyway…just wanted to update you (one thing I noted is, the theme image on WordPress dashboard still shows Newspaper7 instead of 8).
BTW, the upgrade did wipe out my widget settings on Home and Post pages but it wasn’t that of a big deal. I could get them up again quickly. Yet to implement td composer. Hopefully it will work seamlessly. Keep up the good work, friends!
Update for whoever following this thread.. I found it’s NOT a facebook issue. The likes are not gone because Jetpack plugin still shows old numbers. Anyway, for the time being I have disabled the Likes option in the Theme panel.

This is a strange issue as a theme update should not change the likes. The iamges in the theme panel do not say newspaper 7. I have double checked every image in the theme panel and they are all newspaper 8 images. Do not pickj the automatic update. Pick the WP or FTP method. but make sure you download the theme again from envato as there were a few fixes implemented into the theme package on 8 Aug.
