1) The auto update deleted all of the configurations of my site. I lost all the edits I made to the design. I lost all the scripts for the ads. All the configurations for graphics are lost. The only thing that remained were my posts. Now I have to rebuild my site from scratch.
I was using Black Version. I guess you guys removed this demo and replaced it with Black Version Pro, thus wiping out my website.
I am not happy.
2) How do I turn off auto updates so I can keep this from happening again? I want to make my own decision to upgrade so that I can plan ahead and set aside the time needed to fix my site after a major update.
Hi kentwissinger,
1. There was no demo removed, the Black Version demo is still in our theme -> https://i.imgur.com/TczHyQ3.png but please note that in order to can use it you must have tagDiv Composer and tagDiv Standard Pack enable -> https://i.imgur.com/zZLlLSe.png
Also note that we always recommend to make a full backup before the update.
2. Please note that our theme is not update it’self, is your decision to press the update button to update the theme -> https://tagdiv.com/update-newspaper-theme/
Thank you for your understanding and sorry for the inconvenience!
I didn’t choose to do the upgrade. It happened while I was logged out. No one else has access to my site. Even if I reinstalled the old Black Version, all my design work would still be wiped out.
I have both Composer and Standard Pack enabled. Although I had to reinstall these and the other tagDiv apps after my site was wiped out.
So it’s worth looking into on your end what happened to a site like mine since I didn’t choose the update. It auto installed. It looks like you have some other issues to work out with the new PRO versions like why the inline article ads are not working.
And yes it does auto update. I came back to my site today, and it was crashed. I had enter in the code showing I purchased it for the third time. You guys are not owning up to the fact you destroyed all our websites.
prophecywatchman, thanks for the letting me know it wasn’t just me.
I saw that a theme update was available within WordPress, and purposely avoided updating for this reason. Now my site is a mess.
Hi prophecywatchman and kentwissinger, please understand that our theme do not have the capability to make the theme update automatically (please check our article from here ) most probably on you host you have some options that when is detected a new update to be make automatic.
Also kentwissinger if you had a demo and you edit it and you do not made your own content, then yes, this will be lost when you change it or uninstall it -> https://i.imgur.com/9Im10z9.png -> https://tagdiv.com/newspaper-theme-installing-demos/
indeed with inline ads from single post templates are some problems, but these can be solved using a fix with -> https://i.imgur.com/421qX6d.png

If there is still a problem and you want, you we can take a look to them, make a full backup and send us an email at contact@tagdiv.com and provide admin login, as well as cPanel. We will take a look. Include a link to this topic in the email.
Thank you for your understanding!
Thank you. Apparently the problem is that tagDiv changed the way themes are updated. It is now integrated into WordPress. The default for WordPress is to auto update themes. I’ve turned this off so it doesn’t happen again.
It would have been good to anticipate and communicate this potential problem to users.
I do have an issue with single post templates, which I’ve posted separately to the forum.
Hi, same thing here. We also had the auto-update enabled but, after a first “disaster” overcome with the restoration of the backup, for weeks we have avoided updating the theme afraid of losing all the customizations.
However, having paid for the updates (which, currently, we cannot do to avoid blocking the site) we would like to understand IF there is a method to update the theme without losing the template configurations (in our case Book Club): it can help to work only on a child theme?
Or, as it seems to deduce from some answers, the only method is to NEVER update the theme again?
Thank you
Hi, since the last Newspaper update, i cant edit any page created with td composer. Even i cant create a new one from the cloud template.

When i try to create a new one from cloud template, i recived: Invalid reply from server endpoint.
Please help me, because the site is a digital newspaper, and i cant update covid information that is manually put
Hi riminisparita, as long you do not made changes in theme files or theme plugins, there will be no problems to make the theme update, the theme panel setting are saved in database.
If you made change you can use our guide for child theme, also there are more methods to update the theme, you can check our guide from here -> https://tagdiv.com/update-newspaper-theme/
Hi epromd,
If you are using WordPress v5.5, you must use the last version of Newspaper theme too, only this will work on this version of WordPress.
Also if you already have Newspaper 10.3.6.1 and you have this problem, then try the below steps:
1. Disable tagDiv Composer -> https://i.imgur.com/uzBdRB9.png
2. delete tagDiv Composer -> https://i.imgur.com/xGGfYE7.png
3. Reinstall tagDiv Composer -> https://i.imgur.com/Ay0zJHn.png or -> https://i.imgur.com/ZMgV9at.png
4. Clear all cache from your website, host and browser ( for browser use force refresh Ctrl Shift R ).
Usually the “Invalid reply from server endpoint error” is caused by insufficient WP_Memory_limit, if you’ll set it to 256M, and is still not working, please check the rest of settings from our guide.
Also make sure that all theme settings are as in our guide ->
– https://forum.tagdiv.com/requirements-for-newspaper/
and please increase all requirements that are lower, and follow all steps.
Also make sure that you are using https not http, also make sure that you have a good connection to internet.
Let me know the results!
Hi Parhobas, the theme it’s self can not do that, usually there are other plugins or security modules that are interfering with the theme.
Also please let us know exactly the problems you are facing, in this way we’ll have a better change to find the problem and prevent those problems.
Thank you!
