Big problems after 7.0 updates

My high traffic travel website http://www.asiantraveltips.com has been using Newspaper theme for a couple of months now and it has been pretty good, but since the latest version updates all kinds of things have broken and I can’t fix them. I am currently on V7.0.1. My server is a VPS at A Small Orange running Apache with PHP V 5.4.45 and 1024 MB RAM. I’ve copied the Theme Status data below.

The Visual Composer is no longer working. I have tried uninstalling the plugin and reinstalling from the plugins folder in the theme files and it’s now on V.4.11.2 as you recommend but it still doesn’t work. If you visit the home page you’ll see the [vc] code is displayed at the top of the page instead of the parallax image scroller that should be there.

Image of page editor Apparently the image embed isn’t working, so look at http://www.awesomescreenshot.com/image/1243684/423dbeebbf2789c41a928271be340223

The image above shows the page editor screen when I try to edit my static front page. It’s blank. Before I uninstalled and reinstalled VC, it was displaying a VC logo in there but when I’d click it, I’d be taken to their website to buy the product. Now there’s just a blank box and if I click on the VC logo next to “Classic Editor” it does nothing. Same when I try to create a new page.

I have also lost my Mappress Pro maps and the admin strip across the tops of pages and posts when I am logged in as administrator. If I change back to my old theme, they both work just fine so it’s definitely related to Newspaper theme. I have even tried disabling all the other plugins and disabling Cloudflare and it makes no difference. So it doesn’t seem to be a plugin conflict.

I’m desperate and running out of options. This is starting to crash my Google rankings as well now.

Note: I’ve just re-edited and re-saved the home page and the [vc] has disappeared now. The block that should be displayed is now displayed. But my editor screen at the top of the page still looks the same (blank). I was able to see the blocks displayed in the the VC section further down the edit screen. I’ve captured a screenshot below so you can see how I’ve structured that home page.

But the other problems I cannot seem to fix.

Hi,

The other problems seem to not be problems at all, but the mobile theme edtior now introduced with the mobile theme plugin. You cannot add visual composer on the mobile theme as it was created to not use it. There are 2 editors in page edit now. Please scroll down to see the second editor for desktop: http://screencast.com/t/Imy7o0XxET
Your pages will not display as before on mobile phones with the mobile theme. It was designed to get the most speed for mobile users and this could not be done with visual composer. If you plan on using the mobile theme you need to create your mobile version of the pages. If you do not want to use this plugin you can simply deactivate it from the plugins section.
You can read more about the mobile theme here: https://forum.tagdiv.com/the-mobile-theme/

Thank you!

Leaving aside the screen editor issue, which I can work around, there are still three issues where the Newspaper theme seems to be breaking other functions. If we can address the first one, I think it will simplify addressing the other two.

(1) The header background is not displayed below the home page. So it’s there on
http://www.asiantraveltips.com/ but not there on http://www.asiantraveltips.com/destinations/.

(2) The dropdown menus on pages where the header does not display are blank until you hover over them. Ie, if you hover over “Places to Go” you should see a yellow strip under the title and a list of locations in the drop down, but below the home page all you see is a white box until you move the mouse down over it, then the locations appear.

(3) The WordPress admin menu fails to display other than on the home page – ie, I see a white strip where the admin menu should be. It never reappears except on the home page.

(4) MapPress Maps are no longer displaying.

All these issues are not issues if I switch back to my old Colormag theme.

Hi,
The multiple issues on your website are most likely caused by plugin conflicts. If you check the search that is not working as well and that is a definite sign of plugin conflicts. Please deactivate all plugins excepot visual composer, clear cache and reset cdn files (you need to clear all caches even the server cache if there is one). And check your site again without plugins to see if issues are still there. If they are, it menas that the theme was not properly updated and you need to remove it and make a fresh install.
Let us know how it goes.

Hi

i had the same problem with Visual Composer(VC), make sure you update the plugin using the update package provided in theme update.

that fixed my issue.
