My client does not use images with news and the best one would be Block 9 only catch is
1. I need to add Excerpt Text
2. I need to change so that it displays 1 per line, current it goes to two
3. I need to add Read More to it

My other option is BOX21 and it can display with placeholder image BUT,
I get an error when I have this enabled:

The block 9 is made using module 8 so you can customize it like you wish – http://screencast.com/t/DMLW30OgN6 or get someone to help you as the time doesn’t allow us to provide custom services.
Regarding the error you get, do you use the api plugin? Please install it from here(see bottom of the page) – https://forum.tagdiv.com/practical-example-how-to-add-a-new-block-and-module/

Thanks Alin, I have changed some of the css on block 9 to reduce space ect. I will dig into modifying it later maybe pick some php from the other blocks to this one lol.
REF ERROR, that’s the stock standard theme, no mods done. Just setting BOX 21 via visual composer generates the error

I downloaded the theme last night, so whatever version is in there that is what I used to install everything. So not sure what is missing or what not bout out the box there is an error.
What I have done is setup a clone of the home page, just to show you.
BLOCK 21, via VISUAL COMPOSER, only thing I have done is install your theme on a clean install of wordpress and imported posts via export from old site and used themepanel to install plugins. NOTHING more NOTHING less.

I’m not sure why you are getting this error but you can try a few things to see if it works.
Please deactivate all plugins except visual composer, clear your cache (very important. clearing cache fixed this sort of issue for other users) and purge cdn files if you use it.
If the problem is still there you can check theme panel and reset the thumbnail setting. Disable thumbnails and enable them again from the theme panel.
You can also check your system status to see if all parameters are set according to this guide: https://forum.tagdiv.com/system-status-parameters-guide/
If all else fails, you can try to do a clean install of the theme. The best way to do it is via ftp: https://forum.tagdiv.com/install-via-ftp/

I have figured out that it does that for all posts without images. But this client does not use images so not sure what I am going to do.
It’s by default like this and does this on other installs as well. I am from today on 4 sites with Newspaper theme and another 2 coming this week and I suspect they will all have this problem.
REF setup
– clean WordPress install
– clean Newspaper theme install
– NO CDN network
– Cache cleared, completely cleared and tested on multiple browser.
– all plugins off (accept visual composer) no change
– FRESH new clean isntall of Newspaper Theme, no luck.
SO I am back to square 1 but will make do with the module/block that does not cause problems. It’s only BLOCK 21 with the error.

We ran a few more test in this matter and have found a workaround to eliminate the error.
You need to edit td_config.php and add this code:

Basically you are just adding another thumbnail to the list in between the existing ones. Then the error will not display anymore. I will add this bug to our list of fixes and in a future update we will get this issue fixed.
