I would like to change the top 3 posts to custom posts because right now it is only showing the latest 3 from the category.

Hello fredy,

Please notice that the sort order of the default category pages is the only setup by latest articles. Another alternative for you would be to use the Cloud Template Library and create a category page with your desired blocks which can be sorted by more options.
