When I go into edit “column text” by clicking “edit content,” I am unable to open the WP Editor box to edit text. The WP Editor just stays in processing mode, but never opens. I have not updated to the newest version of Newspaper theme. Will updating the version help the WP Editor open, or is there another problem?
Also, I’m afraid I will lose something when I update Newspaper to the newest version. Do you have any suggestions about updating the theme?

The problem with the column text and text with title is fixed in the theme version 11.5.1
Please try to do the update manually via FTP/cPanel -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/ by replacing the old theme with the new one (replace not overwrite), in case there are custom changes in the theme files, those will be lost. Also, please do a full backup of all files and databases before updating.
Also, please try to update the theme without extra plugins activated during the installation, as this may interfere with the installation process.
Also, after the update please make the tagDiv plugins are installed, like tagDiv Standard Pack, tagDiv Composer, tagDiv Social Counter, etc.

What is the point of having an automatic update if the manual update is recommended? The FTP process seems kind of tedious.
By “extra plugins” do you mean I should update without any plugins activated or just specific select plugins?

You can also use automatic updates, but only have tagDiv plugins enabled/activated, (for example if you have the WordFence plugin, you need to use the WordFence assistant plugin to make sure it does not block the update process), also please make sure you have permissions set correctly so as not to interfere with the update process -> https://www.malcare.com/blog/wordpress-file-permissions/
Also, please do a full backup of all files.
