Yes, by default the featured image will be cropped center-top, if you want to change it you can go in theme files on this path -> wp-content/plugins/td-composer/legacy/Newsmag/includes/td_config.php and change the crop -> https://i.imgur.com/ot6Mn4G.png

If you want to have more control over the featured images from homepage, then you can edit it with tagDiv Composer, and use some flex blocks -> https://i.imgur.com/Riqs5NO.png these blocks are special and can be more easy design ( you can check the documentation for flex blocks from Newspaper) -> https://i.imgur.com/Fkga3eS.jpg
