Excerpt Lengths Not Honored

Excerpt length is currently set to 50 words (the short column in the screenshot is 54 words)

This has happened on a few different occasions, in other locations as well.

Excerpts were working on the homepage earlier, until I mass disabled and selectively enabled plugins, to help document and log issues for separate issues to a 3rd party plugin vender.

No caching in is present wordpress, and varnish is disabled on the server until until after I’ve done testing and modding setup.

I’ve killed off posts and recreated with no change.

As a test, I’ve also attempted utilizing a 3rd party plugin WPKUBE – Advanced Excerpt where is excerpt length is set to 10 words. Any other options offered by the plugin are not being recognized (ie custom “read more” link).

Memory I set to 128MB after deploying the server.

All plugins disapled, excepting tagDiv’s, enabled main theme from child theme, no plugin cache, reset memcached on server, cleared browser(s) cache and history, and tried again. Issue persists.

I’m using Flex Block 4.
Module Flex 1, I can adjust title length (I believe was able to adjust previously as well), however excerpt length adjustments have no effect on article content lengths.

The same issue happened to me also and I was able to fix it by clicking Excerpt off from pre-made style presets. Don’t know if this has anything to do with your situation, but it’s worth to try.

Thank you, janne-l, that’s a cool little trick I wasn’t aware of. While you didn’t actually solve the problem I posted… you helped clue me into a major part of the functionality of the theme I wasn’t aware of, and helped me a ton anyway.

I can disable the excerpt entirely… but unfortunately does nothing to help adjust the length of the excerpt (ie turn off, turn on, adjust excerpt length – or turn off, adjust excerpt length – or turn off, adjust excerpt length, turn on)

I’ve nailed down the issue, ran two tests to confirm and both displayed excerpted results.
Seems like html markup in the posts is keeping the theme from creating excerpts.

Wondering if tagDiv might have recommendations for managing html markup in posts and managing excerpts?

The fix yesterday isn’t working today.
Created new vid, and replied to eMail thread.

Basically, today, editing existing posts (taking html content and replace with its simple text version in the same post) isn’t working. However, creating new posts with plain text, or as html text using the exact same content as posts that are not excerpting is creating excerpted content.

Why converting html text to plain text in the same existing post is not working today as it was yesterday is a complete mystery to me. As mysterious as to why the problem is even occurring at all.

But there is obviously a problem occurring, still need to identify where and how.
Hopefully working with support through email will help identify the underlying issue.

Will report back when we discover the source of the issue.
