Hi guys,
The newspaper theme has never really had a fast loading speed for me, but until recently my website https://startforart.com is loading up incredibly slow. sometimes it will take 10 seconds of staring at a loading wheel on a white screen until the website shows up.
Can someone walk me through how to speed this loading time up?

See the tutorials section in docs on tips for speeding uo your site. Disabling anything loading from external sites can help a lot.

That could slow down the website quite significantly. Seems to be an image set as background, check in the theme panel in the background sections

Also check in the Header background and footer background. If you used a code to set a background somewhere, check that as well (custom code, child theme).

Great find thanks for this. I went onto the background settings and have removed a photograph it had set. Is the 404 error gone now? Not exactly sure how to check.

Great tool to learn is the console view in chrome, by pressing f12 and note console tab for errors
That seems solved, but the website still is slow. Maybe it would be time to consider to update the theme, update WPBakery and all the plugins.
Using the latest WordPress and such an old theme version would not be the best method. Conflicts may appear and some things will probably not function correctly.
