Novice, so I apologize upfront. Does newspaper have visual editor frontend editing? I only see backend.
Hey. It does not have front-end. Only backend editor. At least this one that comes within theme.
From expirience I can tell you that backend visual composer editor is much better and much more precise then frontend. You will see that it is much easier to edit things in backend.
I have multiple themes that came with visual composer, and I have visual composer alone purchased from envato, and whenever I do stuff with it I do it in backend.

Can I edit the contents of the Grids or Blocks?
I want to keep the design but not the type of content in each section. I do not want everything to be a post. I would like some sections of the grid/block to be just an image with a link to another page.
Big Grid 3 has a 4 panel layout, if I wanted 2 of these to be something other than a post how do i do that.
If I understand you corectly, then no. You can add those separately.
So you cannot edit the forwarding link of a grid or block object?

You can apply a redirect to your links using a redirect plugin (301 redirects)
Blocks can also show events (if you have an event plugin) or pages.
