How to decrease amount of loaded media files

Hello,

I have a photography blog and I use the Newspaper theme. Since my articles are about photography, I need to upload a lot of photos. The longest edge of the photos I use is usually 1280 pixels. Sometimes I upload larger photos.

WordPress media settings as follows:

Thumbnail: Width = 0 / Height = 0
Medium size: Max Width = 345 / Max Height = 999
Large size: Max Width = 696 / Max Height = 999

When I upload a photo of 2000 x 2000 pixels, I see results on the server as in the linked file. In one download, a total of 30 files are uploaded. This means a lot of disk space and slowing down my site.

Are all of these files used?
What should I do to reduce the number of files and the required disk space?

Thanks in advance for your interest and help.
Regards.

Hello !

Please make sure that all the requirements are up to date as you can see here: https://forum.tagdiv.com/requirements-for-newspaper/

You can also follow our page speed tutorial: https://tagdiv.com/how-to-increase-page-loading-speed/

We test the websites using GTMetrix, you can do it too and see what can be improved on your website.

Thank you !

Hi Vlad S,

I guess I didn’t fully explain the problem. I don’t have a major problem with the speed performance of the site. Almost all of the recommended settings have been applied. You can test a few pages or articles on my site.

The main issue I want to emphasize is about disk space. Nearly 30 images are created on the server for one image. Are they all used by the theme? How do I know if it is used? What can I do to minimize disk usage?

Regards.

Hello !

Sorry for missunderstanding your issue !

We recommend deactivating the placeholders for the blocks you are not using: https://www.screencast.com/t/b63SmPKNfo

Check what modules are you using and let them active, deactivate the rest and everything should be ok.

Thank you !

Hi Vlad S,

There are many authors on our blog. It’s impossible to know which blocks (modules) they use.

Is there a solution that lists which modules are used throughout the site? If I know these things, I can make the update you suggested.

Regards.

Hello !

Unfortunately you will have to look through them manually. There is no option in seeing which blocks are used and which don’t.

Thank you !
