I would wait if I was you. I tried updating 1.4 to 1.7 yesterday and it didn’t go according to plan. There are some issues that the devs are aware of. So stay frosty and wait for 1.8 I suppose 🙂

I went from 1.4 to 1.6 with zero problems last week.

Last night I upgraded site from 1.4 to 1.7.

Only issue I had was NORMAL issues of some of the sidebars getting reset (meaning some of the widgets didn’t save); and had to “resave” the homepage just to reset it. All settings normally carry over due to the built in “transient” settings of WordPress. Everything else was exactly as I’d left it.

You should also be regularly doing backups of your site, theme settings, etc.

If you made custom changes to the core files (e.g., style.css etc.) you would, of course, need to apply those changes to the new files.

1.7 works fine with couple of minor issues, depending on if your hosting co is running old php tech which is really somewhat deprecated.

So far only bugs I’ve had are one spacing issue in a stock WP recent posts widget, and the modules in Visual Composer won’t let me filter by any author except myself.

Everything ELSE is working fine for me in 1.7, but SOME people are having some weird issues which are common with all WordPress site changes/updates like this. Main issue is the use of some code in the theme which is not playing well with OLDER versions of php (we are running PHP Version 5.4.22).

So, check the version of PHP you have … if 5.4.22 or newer, should be ‘mostly’ fine.
OR: wait for a dot revision of 1.7.1 next week, I’m guessing.

Don’t know if that helped or just re-peated the other posts, but my two cents anyway. 🙂

Sure Chris, but I wouldn’t defend the fact that update works well when so many people had problems. It is beyond me why their quality control is so bad when so many people bought the theme. There must be an element of *if we f**k this up, people aren’t going to be impressed* which was what happened not only to me but to many.

Hi,

@crictracker

As Chris also stated if you had changes to theme’s files then updating the theme will lose theme so it would be better to note your changes then update the theme using the guide below (FTP method) and make the changes again.
Newsmag theme update guide: https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-theme/
Please also make sure you do a backup of your current theme installation and wordpress also.
Let us know if you need other assistance related to this.

@Lukas

We’re currently working on fixing all reported issues and soon we will release an update which will fix them all.
The main issue has been fixed and the theme with the fix is live on themeforest. We’re very sorry for this issue. We mistakenly used a PHP 5.4 feature in the code and we failed to test the theme on php 5.2.8 (the minimum version required by WordPress).
We’ll have a much better checklist for deploy and I will make sure stuff like this doesn’t happen again.
Sorry for the inconvenience!

Thanks
Lucian C.
