So I have the newspaper 7, and I just downloaded the 8.5 update and inside is a patch folder. Am I suppose to install the patch folder as a theme? Do I need to do anything with that?
Why isn’t the theme just updating like other themes?
Am I suppose to install the patch into a child theme?
Im like so confused. Im working on a testing server and want to use the child theme, and them push this to my live site. So I am not sure where the info for the patch details are located. If you have a link to the patch details page please share.

The patch simply contains the files modified from one version to another. That is meant for people who have code modifications and do not want to replace all the theme files.
If you do not have code modifications, you do not have to use the patch. You can use this guide to properly update the theme: https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/
