I’m posting this simply because I have received at best a “pass the buck” answer to my support inquiry.
It appears that if you want to place an image in the body of a blog post in Newspaper 11.2 and want to hyperlink it so if someone clicks on it that it will take them to a different destination URL, it can’t be done.
For whatever reason, the Support Team Member by the name of VLAD seems to want to blame WordPress for this, even when he readily admits there is a bug in the Newspaper Theme v11.2.
He specifically says…
“We have managed to recreate this and indeed this seems to be a bug. I have notified our developers to take a look at this as fast as possible. I will come back with a resolution on this as soon as the investigate.”

Yet, subsequent follow-up indicates that the Newspaper Theme Support Team still want to blame WordPress for this, even though I spoke to a WordPress developer of over 15 years and clearly tells me that IT IS THE THEME.
So, my advice? Ditch the Theme because they have no intention of fixing this.

Hello!
Just to make this clear.
“We have managed to recreate this and indeed this seems to be a bug. I have notified our developers to take a look at this as fast as possible. I will come back with a resolution on this as soon as the investigate.” This was my initial reply to your post. After talking to one of our developers I have done more testing and bellow you can clearly see the result.
Bellow is shown a test of exactly the steps that you let us know you took on.
This is the result:

2: https://www.screencast.com/t/Y7YJf4uzYaF
3: https://www.screencast.com/t/crVWvLzvUP
And this is the behaviour: https://www.screencast.com/t/sKK5irQMtbz
I’m sorry if I made myself misunderstood, but how can this be a fault from Newspaper Theme if this happens when Newspaper Theme or the tagDiv plugins are not even installed ?
Exactly the same result I obtain if I install the Newspaper Theme.
Thank you!
Yes, but you are creating a text link for a caption, not the IMAGE!
The whole idea here is to LINK THE IMAGE and you’re NOT doing that in your demonstration above. So THAT doesn’t answer my question.
I already know you can create a TEXT LINK for the caption, but now try to create a link for the IMAGE so when someone clicks on THAT, they are taking to the URL.
Advise.

Hello!
Please disable this feature in Theme Panel: https://www.screencast.com/t/A5lHMqLeU This should make your setting work. This must be done if you are using Gutenberg. On the classic editor that will work without an issue.
I hope this fixes your issue.
Thank you!
Have same issue on my site. Using gutenberg with Newspapper 11.4. General modal image is unchecked. Can’t link any images. I don’t see a menu to add link for block image (normally seen on the bottom of right sidebar on editing post view) The only way is to add a caption link. Very frustrating. Very frustrating. Can you give me a hand?
