I am trying to figure out how to categorize a post under Editor’s pick or Must Read sections. Is it automatic or can it be manually set?

You can do this use the tagDiv Composer to edit the page => https://www.screencast.com/t/imFr64iZZ ,
scroll until to Editor’s Pick or Must Read and you can filter that Flex Block by specific category and/or other settings here: https://www.screencast.com/t/jCEMZn6m5 .

I’m trying to edit the editor pick, on the footer of my website.

Is it correct?
but, as u can see from the pic, clicking on “composer” (is here where I can edit EDITOR PICKS?) is not possible.
How to solve?

Seems you have assigned global a standard footer template from the theme panel.
Please set the footer template global like this -> https://i.imgur.com/8N6s9SQ.png and after you will be able to edit it.

The standard footer template can’t be edited.
Please import from tagDiv Cloud Libary this footer -> https://cloud.tagdiv.com/#/single/footer/Footers/972 and after you can edit it with tagDiv Composer -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/footer-templates/ please check the guide.
