Time to add mine into the mix here. I just updated so I’m using Newspaper v6.1 and the child theme.
I opted to go for sleek design attributes and dug apart the default styles. Features include:
- Transparency on all container backgrounds
- Full size fixed background image representing my site’s primary subject (Dallas Cowboys NFL Team)
- Custom widget title blocks
- Custom link colors on post templates with darker headers
- Custom sharing buttons; removed default Pinterest button and replaced with a Reddit button
- Using Open Sans and Roboto in a few places like menus and widgets, and using Merriweather for content and some titles, but Oswald for all headings and most titles.
I’m pretty pleased with how it came out and, of course, thanks go to tagDiv for revamping the theme in such a way that this was so easy to do. Seriously loving the speed of the theme, even with ads and outside javascript like an audio player loaded.

BTW – I checked out the M&S “The Wolf” video and shared it. I noticed you’ve got your name entered wrong for the Twitter via username. Shows via @Festival Snobs and that space breaks and benefit of the via tag. Should change it to via @FestivalSnobs if you want it to do any good, since that’s your handle on Twitter.
Still, like the site. Post back here once you update the theme. I’d love to see how it looks/works then.

@NTellier85 The setting for that spot is under Post Settings > Sharing in the theme panel. Operates separately from the other settings for icons and counters.

@btreece84 And now I jsut need to find the update script for v6. I can’t find it in my WordPress admin area at all, where the documentation says to find it.

@btreece84 thats the screen I can’t find. I’m sure I’m just being extremely dumb and it’s right in front of my face, haha. đ
@NTellier85 It’s only available after activating v6+. New version adds a Newspaper menu item just under Jetpack that has several sub-items. But once you activate the new version, you’ll be taken to the welcome screen anyway, which is what my screenshot showed you. Pretty quick to go through the update script from there, but will take a few minutes where things get hairy on the front-end.
@NTellier85 Oh and give the docs a read first to make sure you got everything set. Might want to clone your site into a development site to give things a test run before changing the production site.
