If you see on our front page you can see the breaking news section on the left hand side, for some reason if will always make the newest article come second, I have tried to look at formatting and also the way its sorted but cant make any difference.
sort order is filtered by latest

Please edit the search template, select the block and remove the offset -> https://i.imgur.com/dJ0iFQu.png let that field empty.
