Hi, my site is hosted with WP Engine. The host is planning on upgrading sites to PHP 7 servers starting this fall. They created a wordpress plugin called PHP Compatibility Checker to see if your themes and plugins would be compatible. At the moment, Newspaper 7 wouldn’t be a supported theme.
Do you have plans for the theme to be compatible with PHP7? And if so, when could we expect that version?
Thanks
Pat
Hello
We do not recommend the usage of PHP 7 with our theme as it is not tested with it and there is a chance to appear some incompatibilities and conflicts. From our reports the theme works fine on servers with PHP 7 but however we can’t guarantee that. The theme works fine if your server meets the requirements specified here -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/requirements-for-newspaper/
Thanks for your understanding!
Hello Stefan,
As you can see, the PHP7 is not fully tested with our theme. Our developers will make some investigations in this regard, but we cannot say for sure a specific date when it will be accomplished because we have a long list of improvements and our team are working hard to finish these tasks.
Thanks for your understanding!
Also note that most “good” web hosts actually support both PHP7, and PHP5x during the transitional period of the next year where “most” will start moving to PHP7 for 2017, but not everything yet works right. SO, for example on my server, I can go to a specific site’s php settings an CHOOSE to use either PHP7 or PHP5.x depending on the site. During the “transitional” period with PHP7, most good hosts should be doing this!
