We use the Seriously Simple Podcasting plugin on the site. It uses its own Post Editor, which is not the normal one that you use to post a blog with nor does it use the normal categories. So when in that episode editor, you don’t get the “Post Settings” options, but you do get “Custom Post Type – Layout Settings”, where you can choose the sidebar location, and the drop down menu for the sidebar you want it to use, but it doesn’t work when published. Here is a link to the episode. http://test.thesinbin.net/podcast/into-the-sin-bin-with-greg-wyshynski-and-rob-loeber
Is there anyway to make those podcast post types work with a custom sidebar?

Hi
The theme have the ability to manage the sidebar for the custom post types. I’ve just test this on my side and works fine. We didn’t test the Seriously Simple Podcasting plugin with the theme and I am not aware of it’s functionality so there is a chance to appear some issues. However I did a quick test and the sidebar works fine on podcast post type: http://screencast.com/t/RcciEEDl0Ujz – http://screencast.com/t/ZZThsY9T7W1
You can try to deactivate all plugins except Visual Composer and Seriously Simple Podcasting, clear the cache memory then test again.
Thanks!
Nothing….I can choose to have the right sidebar in the post editor, but when the post is published, its published with no sidebar.
As you can see in the post editor, its showing the right sidebar:

I have the right sidebar selected in the “Custom Post Type – layout settings”:

But then when the post is published it has no sidebar.

This was the same issue I was having in another thread with the sidebars. But then I had sidebars when I would select no sidebars. Then someone from support logged into the site to look at everything and said everything was fine and it started working with no sidebars like magic…..but now, when I want a sidebar….it stays with no sidebars. So it seems its one or the other. It either has sidebars, or it doesn’t. I can’t get it to work with both. I thought maybe the same thing with it being a caching issue, but I am working on two different computers and in different locations.
Hello,
These issues can come from your system status parameters. Please check your system status here: http://screencast.com/t/z9DGWDEmpKFR
You can follow this guide to increase the values: https://forum.tagdiv.com/system-status-parameters-guide/
These settings are important and must be increased (green status) as they are a theme requirement.
If the problem is still there after you get all the options green, you can also try it without any plugins. Disable all of them except visual composer and check your sidebar again.
I hope this helps.
Thank you!
Alright, I finally got everything in the System Status increased and in the Green. But, its still not using the sidebar on the Podcast Episode posts.
I have the right sidebar selected, and its showing right sidebar in the post editor

But when published….no sidebars.

I have sidebars working in other areas where I was having troubles before….but still have issues with these podcast pages.
Hello,
Please check one more thing. Follow his guide to set up the recommended theme custom post type using our plugin which creates the “book” post type. See if the sidebar is available and if it displays fine on td_books: https://forum.tagdiv.com/custom-post-type-support/
If the sidebar works on the books post type, then you will have to use a different podcast plugin as it’s post type is probably not compatible with our theme. Test it out and let us know how it goes.
Thank you!
Nope, still didn’t work. Its still using no sidebar, even though I selected a right sidebar. I was able to use the CPT & Taxonomy to make a right sidebar show up in the Podcast Categories….but, it still will not show up for a post.
I tried a book post as well, it doesn’t work either. Same thing, I have it set with a right sidebar, and it uses no sidebar when published.
Is there a way that I could just create a Podcast WordPress Template that would show up up in the Template Settings > WordPress Templates and would only control the Podcast posts? If you go into Template Settings > WordPress Templates > Blog and post templates it will change whether the Podcast page has a sidebar or not. I have that set to No sidebars, as I don’t want any sidebars on normal blog posts. If there was a way to create a new Podcast Template that would show up in there and only control Podcasts it might work. I have no idea how to do any of that though. When hovering over a tag in the podcasts section of the ACP….in the link it says “post_type=podcast”. I don’t know….I am just trying to figure it out.
Hello,
I have investigated this a bit further and it will probably require further implementation if you want to get the sidebar running with podcasts. I tested the td_book now and there is no sidebar on this post type as well. It seems the plugin does not create the sidebar implementation on the book itself but rather the genres and writers pages. It could be the same for the podcast. In any case, you will need to hire a freelancer to help out from sites like studio.envato.com as we cannot offer any custom work at the moment.
Thank you for your understanding.
