I’m having problems with the editor on the site. I can’t “edit content”. When I drop an element onto the page, like a text with title box, then I click on “Edit Content” to try and add text, it just pops up a window with a perpetually spinning wheel.

Please make sure that all the requirements are met as you can see here: https://forum.tagdiv.com/requirements-for-newspaper/ ; You will have to first start looking for a plugin conflict. Please deactivate ALL plugins except tagDiv ones, also if you are using child theme or cache plugin, deactivate them, clear all cache and try again.
Also, you can try and remove and re-install the tagDiv Composer plugin.

Normally, the role should not affect the way it works.
Usually, that problem when you use Rocket Loader from CDN and sometimes when this requirement is not set like this -> https://www.screencast.com/t/uFfzyflRd . Those are the most cases where the problem appears.
