That could mean you are uploading the whole theme package, not the actual theme. When downloading the theme from themeforest, there are 2 options, to download the full package or just the theme – https://forum.tagdiv.com/whats-included/

Please follow the theme install guides carefully and there should be no problem

Install either by WordPress or by FTP, the steps are described for each method.
