I suppose that you are referring to the excerpts. If you want to change the length of this, you can change from Theme panel->Excerps for each module, like this -> http://screencast.com/t/LOvFYRIP

On our homepage are displayed the blocks and these uses some modules as you can see here -> http://screencast.com/t/LOvFYRIP The categories will be displayed only for category page and these modules can be set from Theme panel ->Categories, like this -> http://screencast.com/t/NrAHFbizA
