Hi, when I try to do some global changes in the theme panel e.g. changing the footer look & feel then the saving icon appears and keeps spinning – but nothing saves. Is this a known issue? How can I solve this?

same problem here. i can only edit and save if my site address and wordpress address are the same.

I did. System panel is green. Only missing thing is WP Super Cache. The rest is fine following your guidelines.

I could solve the issue on my own.
For everybody facing the same issue. You just need to add your IP to the Firewall Whitelist. Then it works like a charm.
