My update went perfectly.

@carelpedre

try to delete visual composer, tag div plugins folders, theme folder, and install the new versions from scratch; don’t use child theme; try using my upgrade guide.

It does work!

Hi,

We are very sorry for all the issues. The issue was caused by a code incompatibility with old php versions used on some servers.

I am disappointed as I just purchased Newsmag. The theme is great. The Quality Control on the update is #$%^&
I got an email that there is a new version so downloaded the update from Themeforest. Then my problems started.

First off the documented updated process via the WordPress dashboard fails with with an error that the directory already exists. So I use ftp & upload & unzip & get an error “Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘[‘, expecting ‘)’ in …../wp-content/themes/Newsmag/includes/wp_booster/td_menu.php on line 191”
So then I remove the whole Newsmag directory tree & install via the WordPress dashboard but still get the same damn errors. So I have to once again remove the whole Newsmag directory tree & reinstall the version of the theme that I originally purchased from Themeforest. So now all is working again but I haven’t got the update installed & I have wasted an hour or two of my time.

Mine’s working perfectly, after reinstalling the Social Counter and Visual Composer plugins. These plugins are conveniently included in your Newsmag-tf (v 1.7) folder download from ThemeForest.

I really appreciate the hard work you guys do! Newsmag (and Newspaper) have to be amongst the top WP themes ever produced.

Hi,

Thanks @LulioSr

@nigelbb

We’re very sorry for all the trouble and issues you’ve experienced. We mistakenly used a php 5.4 feature in the code and we failed to test the theme on php 5.2.8 (the minimum version required by WordPress).
We’ll have a much better checklist for deploy and will make sure stuff like this doesn’t happen again.
Sorry for the inconvenience!

Thanks
