Site runs very slowly, might be theme.

You guys have been a great resource in helping me fix up and troubleshoot a website that uses Newspaper that I’m currently managing: http://www.mjr.jour.umt.edu. Thanks for that!

Everything seems to be running smoothly EXCEPT the site speed. If you go to the site and try to navigate around it works, but it’s really slow. The back end is slow too. Moving between things like the plugins, posts, and pages tabs takes about 10-20 seconds to work and sometimes the whole thing just crashes and gives me a 404 message. Same with the front end.

I’ve used a few site performance tests like Pingdom and GT Metrix and it seems that something called “leverage browser caching” or the theme itself could be slowing things down. To be honest I’m not able to make much sense of the results from these tests, let alone know what to do to fix the problematic areas.

I know that’s a little vague, but are there any suggestions you have as to how to speed things up? Too many plugins? A bad plugin? A broken part of the theme?

Leverage browser caching is mission critical, and part of your website setup; not part of theme.

Some fixes are simple; but also the GTMetrix test of a post, shows ‘examples’ of how to fix stuff.
