In the side nav /widget Facebook counter stopped updating. I looked in the documentation and couldn’t find anything specific. Is there a way to refresh? Google+ & Twitter updating fine.
Also, even after I paste profile URL forInstagram (and just profile name) it doesn’t show up in same side bar widget. I walked thru these steps:

Hi,
I’ve checked your site and noticed you use an old theme version (3.6) while the latest available is version 6.3 and the social counter plugin is 3.0
Not sure what why the fb counter doesn’t updates but I suggest you update the theme and use the latest version of the plugin which works fine.
To update the theme please make sure that you follow this update guide and note that because you update from a such an old theme version you will need to reconfigure it but considering that in the latest version you will have lots of new features which you would want to use this wouldn’t be an issue.

Thank you very much for the quick reply. Sorry for my delay, I’ve been reading the documentation you provided and have two questions:
1) Since my version (3.6) is so old, I do not see a link to “update script” on the theme panel (i.e. the very first screenshot provided in the update documentation link you sent). Is there another way I can obtain, and then run?
2) Again, due to old version, should I update immediately to Newspaper 6, or, should I apply prior updates, gradually?

Hi,
Please make a full backup of your current installation – https://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Backups deactivate all plugins and do a clean update, meaning that we recommend that you delete the old version of the theme before uploading the new one and also update the plugins that come with the theme’s files(VC, Social Counter…). After update you can run the script like it is suggested in the upgrade guide. Please note that Newspaper 6 is a new theme so old files customization, custom css will not work anymore so you will have to customize it again, it is not necessarily to update the theme gradually(question 2). Also you will have to re-add the widgets to your sidebar(s) as they will become inactive.

Updated the theme today, by and large, pretty clean.
On the homepage, the tagDiv Social Counter plugin is not working at all and I can’t find out why. Where does it originate? What am I missing? Any guidance there would be appreciated.
Also, what are the new standard dimensions for thumbnails?

The primary image in the Big Grid 2 slider (the Featured Image for that particular post) no longer auto fills the width/height; how can I fix? See example here:

The theme only crops images, it does not enlarge/stretch them. The image does not fit the container because it is smaller than the container. You will need to upload bigger images or use the ‘thumbnail upscale’ plugin to stretch images.

WHat is optimal image dimensions?

Unfortunately there is no optimal image size as multiple modules and blocks use different sizes and different aspect ratios. Basically you will need to check the thumbnail list in the theme panel and see what containers you will use on your website. Then you can decide the image size you want to upload as it will have to be bigger than the thumbnail. There is no ideal size, but for best graphic results you could use a full hd image (1920x1080px), make sure you compress it, you don’t want a large file, it will slow page loading speed.

The social counter for facebook stooped working about a moth ago when facebook changed some of their code and interfered with our social counter. You will need to update your theme to the latest version and update your social counter plugin as well. The input method for the FB button changed since then.
