I’m trying to utilize the smartlists feature on my website, but cannot get it to display the descriptions. I have followed the formatting (title, image, description – adjusted post template – selected smart list style). The smart lists seem to form, but the description is nowhere to be seen. I tried deactivating all plugins, but this did not fix the issue. It occurs with all types of smartlist styles.

Yes, indeed not all smart lists will show the description for images.
Captions are the ones that are shown, not descriptions. Please read this guide:

The description will not be shown even if the image is not in a smart list. A description is not shown even on a wp default theme.

I understand that the metadata description from the image will not be displayed.
In the Newspaper Theme tutorial for smart lists, it uses the term “description” to mean the list content or the text after the image. My problem is that no text shows up after the photo.

So each slide has it’s description as entered when creating the list in the post content previously. How are you doing it exactly? If possible provide a link to a smart list with the problem on your website so I can take a look at it.

I believe I’ve done exactly what you’ve outlined. Here’s the link to a page with a list: http://mountainjourney.com/test/. I’m using Post Template Style 5 and Smart List Style 1. The Smart Lists forms properly, except that the description does not show on any of the lists. This is true for every smart list style.

Now this is unusual, from looking at the smart list you mention there is no description, exactly as if none was entered.
We could take a look, send us an email at contact@tagdiv.com and provide admin login. We may need to deactivate all your plugins for testing except theme plugins, or you could test this before sending the email and mention it. Please also include a link to this topic in the email.

Hello, @simion @bogdan-b the single templates from cloud library are stripping off smart lists from existing posts (plus it will be hectic to create templates for different posts since they are many and some have h3 and h4 as smart list titles). Can the templates be adapted to support default theme smart lists? Second thing, I tested the smart list element in a single template, but it strips off paragraphs before or after the smart list. I had to roll back to default post templates until a solution to this can be found. Thanks.

@epickenyan We are aware of this now, thank you for mentioning however. It seems that a post template for a smart list post should contain only the smart list shortcode, while the post content is to be removed from the single template. Leaving the post content along with the smart list shortcode would display the list twice, and probably broken. I don;t know if entering text before or after the smart list is a good idea. Indeed it seems the paragraph tags are missing. I will make a note of this as well.

You were welcome and I hope a solution is found soon. I had already activated single template 19 before I noticed the errors. I am aware that I should replace the post content shortcode with the one for smart lists. However, in my blog posts with smart lists, there are usually paragraphs before and after to describe what is going in the smart list, or additional content, that’s why the paragraphs are important. Anyway, thanks for the reassurance.
