Version 7 looks great – updated this morning – but
Messed up desktop menu – this is ubermenu plugin – when deactivating ubermenu site white screens
Mobile theme is great but I need to show all ads sold to local businesses so not good for me – use ShiftNav which only changes mobile menu not entire theme – perhaps a step too far to change mobile theme for me, but good progress for others.
Is there a way to use the weather widget without updating to v7?
Thanks

Hello,
Some plugins may become incompatible with version 7. This is the case with major updates as the code is custom and not all plugins can tie into the code. The weather widget cannot be used outside newspaper 7 as it’s a theme feature not a plugin.
Thank you!
To update – all is well with the update now – but the mobile theme strips ads out – because they’re not Google Ads they are sold by myself to local businesses is there a way to use the mobile theme with the ads still there?
Happy either way but would be good to know – already lost native ads on AMP AND Facebook Instant Articles and so have to show them on the mobile version of the site – if not will switch it off but would be good to get speed benefits.
Thanks
Pat
Hi,
the ads on the mobile theme are different than the ads on the desktop version so they need to be added in the mobile theme settings here: http://screencast.com/t/Fkokxgeg1
You can read more about the mobile theme here: https://forum.tagdiv.com/the-mobile-theme/
Thank you!
Yes but when a business has sold ads itself – customers have paid for them to show on mobile site – so I can’t use the mobile site unless the positions are the same exactly as the desktop site – it’s a step too far unless these options can be given.
It’s ok for google ads etc but not for a independent news website – will just leave it switched off which is a shame but not end of world ?
Thanks
Yes I understand – please don’t get me wrong I’m a massive fan of the theme – but things are moving on – I’m just thinking of the future development of Newspaper – mobile is the way forward – AMP/FB Instant etc – so a mobile site must be as close as possible to instant, clearly it can’t be instant but it does need 2 seconds max in load time. Newspaper 7 mobile therefore is a great thing.
However for a news outlet with a large following/visitors, it’s pointless investing in lots of blocks and widgets on a sophisticated home page, so though I still use the theme I’ve stripped it back to basically a roll of articles with one grid and one block. Others will do the same, and all of then sell their own ads on these sites and so need the flexibility.
Recently AdRotate’s author planned to remove mobile ads (except Google type) from his plugin settings, there were so many people begging him not to for this reason that he left it the same so sold ads could appear. If a site owner has developed an inventory of ad positions and prices over two years, he/she then can’t just change these positions when people may have paid for a year or so. It would be the right thing to develop this so a site owner can switch the same options on for the mobile theme if he/she needs them, it can’t be that difficult to do and will keep customers with Newspaper 7+
Thanks
Hi,
At the moment we did not move anything unless the user chooses to. You can deactivate the mobile theme if it will affect your ads. Unfortunately the mobile theme will have it’s own ads separate from the desktop version.
Sorry for the inconvenience. We cannot say exactly what the future will bring with this mobile theme as we just launched it but we are optimistic it will become a powerful tool.
Thank you!
