Theme Not Loading, Database Errors After Update to 9.2

Posted in: Newspaper

After the last update (9.2) my site has been down and/or loading extremely slowly (2 minutes per page). The database is showing constant theme related errors now (see below). The site is using minimal server resources and had been working well/fast for the past several months. No server changes have been made. Any assistance would be appreciated.

The site uses WPML but I have just tested with only a minimal set of plugins and it still runs extremely slowly.

Active Plugins
– Calendarize it! for WordPress
– Really Simple SSL
– tagDiv Composer

As I mentioned in my initial post I’m well aware of the fact that my site has been down or very slow loading…

I noticed that you visited the wrong website as well. It’s cubanartnews.org NOT cubanarts.xyz which was a temp deve site.

I just want to confirm that you believe the errors I posted are due to a damaged database and are not theme related. In that case would restoring the WP Site and Database files to an earlier version, before the errors appeared, correct the situation?

Thanks.

Hi,

Try to make a new theme install and check the results after you make a full backup to your database.

Hope that helps!

Thanks.

I updated to 9.2.1 and still have the same issue. Can you provide instructions for re-installing the theme while maintaining the current settings? Should I just switch to a basic theme (in dashboard), delete Newspaper Theme and then install the latest version and switch to it? Will all data and layout remain in place?

Thanks.

Hello,

You can update the theme without any problem because all of your data will be there. Also, we recommend making a full backup for each theme’s update to be safe. If the problem is still there, please send us an email at contact@tagdiv.com with your log-in information (wp-admin) so we can further investigate it closer your setup page.

Thanks for your understanding!

Thank you for your reply. Once I can confirm that the database issue is resolved with my hosting company I will provide login info. I was able to update the theme to the latest version which did not resolve the problem. The Theme, along with WPML and all other plugins are working… but the dashboard and site are loading slowly.

WPML Support corrected a missing table in the database but the site is still slow.

I’m seeing the following items repeating in the wp-content/error_log:

[08-Jan-2019 13:30:22 UTC] PHP Fatal error: Uncaught Error: Call to undefined function get_header() in /home/px0yzkwouz6p/public_html/wp-content/themes/Newspaper/index.php:6
Stack trace:

Thanks for your response.
After reading through a number of the threads is appears that it’s not a valid error or anything to be concerned about based upon a comment from Bogdan B. on the following thread from 2016. Is that still the case?

https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/fatal-error-due-to-newspaper-theme/

Bogdan B.

“But as a note…this is useless as the error is a false positive of sort. It will not affect anything except give you this information. Do this only if it bugs you. The theme has a custom header that is not grabbed from WP and the crawlers do not detect it as an existing function in the WP code. It’s not really a valid error. If something is not as the crawler likes it to be, it does not mean it’s not OK. A standard user will not have acess to this link at any time except if he manually types it in.”

Also, you failed to address the WordPress database error Lost connection to MySQL message from the debug log which I included in my previous note. Any thoughts on this?

I would help you with those database errors, but I am no expert in the matter of databases. The theme has these requirements
https://forum.tagdiv.com/requirements-for-newspaper/
For WPML – https://wpml.org/home/minimum-requirements/
If those are met the theme and plugins should work properly. Maybe check if these are met, increase the WP-memory and other parameters mentioned in the guide, test with no plugins active except theme plugins and WPML to see if the same database errors appear.

Also maybe attempt to repair the database (make backup before)
