How can I solve this? The images are bigger than what everyone can see in the post.

Hi,
This is usually a plugin conflict, from plugins like photon; please deactivate all non theme plugins, clear all cache and try again.

Yes! It was “Thumbnail Upscale” plugin.
Can you tell me if there is also a way to set a maximum size for posts’ images?
