Hi and merry christmas!
I need update my theme from 8.2 to 8.5.1 and i ask an advice to avoid big problem.

I have a:
–> master theme (this is 8.2 and i need to update to 8.5.1)
–> child theme (this have many custom code)

Can i do these 2 step:
1) update the plugin with new release (example: Visual Composer).
2) Overwrite the theme folder with the 8.5.1 release.

Really thanks.

Hello,

Unfortunately the files in your child theme will have to be updated as well and the customization re-applied as a child theme is not update proof. Please update your theme to the latest version by using this guide: https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/ and then re-create your child theme with the current theme files and re-apply the customization.

Thank you!

Thanks.
What is the changelog of child theme?
I do not see any advice about the child theme.

Hello,

Please check the official child theme documentation: https://forum.tagdiv.com/the-child-theme-support-tutorial/
Please check this topic for a more complex explanation: https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/setting-up-child-theme/

Thank you!

Sorry Bodgan.

I check the documentation but trying to update from “8.2” –> “8.7.1” i do not find any differences in the Child folder downloaded from themeforest.

The files are 3:

– functions.php
– screenshot.png
– style.css

These 3 files are the same that i have find in the child folder of 8.2 that download in the past.

“Child folder 8.2” and “Child folder 8.7.1” have the same files.

– functions.php
– screenshot.png
– style.css

Please can you confirm?
Thanks.

The files contained inside the provided child theme are the same, the files you modified or code entered in your child theme may not be the same or work properly anymore. Update the main theme and check if the child theme customization still works by activating it. If there are problems the child theme modifications will have to be adjusted for the new main theme version.

Some files are subject to change in each update, if you have modified those files in the child theme, the modifications might need to be redone, or they might not. Make tests and check. An important note, do not change the child theme name, there will be issues.

Thanks
