Hi,
Thanks @Chris!
@Branstone Newspaper 6 is practically a new theme more different that version 4. In old version it was wp-admin folder in the root of the theme and now you can find it in /wp_booster folder – http://screencast.com/t/gsBfEOPrKB9 Also the bbpress directory is missing because the bbpress is used now without any customizations.
Thanks!
So do I understand correctly that there is no way of updating to the new Newspaper 6 without messing up the whole website?
If it’s a totally new theme – meaning I will need to rebuild the homepage completely?
Because I tried to update according to the instructions and it messed up my website.
Thanks
Hi,
You don’t have to rebuild your homepage again as running the script will import your setting from database also it will change the shortcodes, but if you have custom modifications to the old theme files and custom css you will have to customize again as like I said the theme should be regarded as a new one(new files, new html/css). We are very sorry for inconvenience!
Thanks!
Hi Alin,
What do you mean by: “running the script will import your setting from database also it will change the shortcodes” – is there something I should do after doing the update in order to run a script to import my old settings? Can you send me the exact instructions for that?
Also – I indeed had some custom css – so I just need to copy these from the old theme and paste it into the custom css on the new theme?
Any more tips on to how to update in the smoothest possible way would be highly appreciated!
Thanks!
Hi,
Please check the documentation how to update the theme and how to run the script – https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/ The only thing that it is not written here is that the old customizations will not work (theme’s files customization, custom css). We recommend that you delete the old version of the theme before uploading the new one, also update the plugins that come with the theme files from /plugins folder. After the update run the script, it will import old settings from database and it will change the shortcodes – http://screencast.com/t/eZxxuqvsTir. Also you have to regenerate the thumbs – https://forum.tagdiv.com/using-the-theme-with-existing-content/ You may have to re-add widgets on the sidebars, some of them may not be imported or don’t exist anymore.
Hope this helps!
