Hi,

Please take a look in your video post if the featured image is created: http://screencast.com/t/cHzhj6Vm
Also please provide a link, so we can take a look.

Thanks!

Hi,

I have made the settings as suggested but it doesn’t create the featured image from the video, I have to put this in manually, this then leads to a problem with posting to facebook as it just generates a text link for facebook post without the image no matter what I put in the yoast social media section.

Hi,

Please try this without any plugins active, leave only Visual Composer active, empty cache and purge your files if you use CDN. Also update your theme if you don’t use the latest version 1.6 Use this guide if you need to update(FTP method): https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-theme/
Do you have this issue since you use the theme or this issue appeared from now?

Thanks!

I have the same problem, also when I try and post a youtube video it returns the following errors when I try to publish the post

Hi,

I’ve tested this using the latest theme version but haven’t found this errors. I believe this is due to your host configuration so I suggest you also contact your host providers and let them know about this error.

Thanks

I just tried the same vimeo video embed on another of my sites on a different server and it doesn’t work on there either. On my test site it doesn’t bring up the image on the home page in any of the content blocks or in post

I’ve just asked my brother to try and embed a vimeo video on his site that uses this theme and his is broken too, that’s 4 of us if you count me twice?

Is there any fix in the new version of the theme and does it have to be updated via ftp or is there another way?

Not a bug in theme, we embed videos from both YouTube and Vimeo all the time.

These embed via OEMBED into a post, which is a built in function of WordPress inside posts, and with a wrapper for featured video, so that it fills the space.

I’m not sure why the line 109 in your setup would be trying to load an external website URL via FOPEN (which should be done via CURL anyway) … loading the proper VIMEO URL should simply do that in the normal iframe.

If you look at the actual line 109, it’s simply to get headers:

    function is404($url) {
        $headers = get_headers($url);
        if (strpos($headers[0],'404') !== false) {
            return true;
        } else {
            return false;
        }
    }

Remember NOT to put https in front of the shortcode URLs (youtu.be), only the full youtube.com URLs.

With Vimeo, be sure the video allows it to be used on other sites, depending on country of origin and copyright elements.

Not sure that helped. Just noticed this and had a thought or two.

You should update to 1.6, as it’s much better than 1.4 (lots of improvements). I was pleasantly surprised.

Use my upgrade guide for ‘best way’ to ensure clean upgrade.

Hi,

I’ve just updated to the latest version of the theme but the situation is still the same on my test site.

I can’t see a featured image on the homepage in any of the blocks and I have no video in post. I have tried to add the URL with the HTTPS and without it with 3 different vimeo videos but still nothing.

I have also tried to embed a youtube video and that is the same, blank! Nothing.

I have deactivated all of the plugins and cleared all of the caches and tried again but no joy, I have viewed the site on my iphone, ipad and laptop and the results are the same.

I’ve no idea what the 109 thing is or why it would be trying to do something other than it is supposed to do in wordpress, I wouldn’t want to or know how to mess with that stuff?

I use site wide SSL on all my sites, not sure if this could cause problems?

I’ll update my main site to the new version of the theme and see what happens with that

Might be an https thing. I did have an issue with one element in the prior edition of Newsmag in the admin panel, which was fixed.

You might try changing anything with “http…” to “https…” in this file, just for testing?

/wp_booster/td_video_support.php

Post count: 112

Ok, so I updated both sites to the new version of the theme and now I have a uniform outcome. Neither of them work.

On my main site that was working before now I just have blank boxes in the posts where the videos should be, this has effected all video posts not just vimeo. I had been adding featured images as the video embed function wasn’t generating the images for the homepage I have tried removing these to see if it will generate the required images and it wont, the boxes on the front page are blank if I remove the featured images

Can you tell me where that file lives Chris, I can’t find it, I am pretty sure I have already done this change on my main site though.

Post count: 112

Thinking about it I would have to do these http to https:// changes again as I have updated the theme?

Post count: 112

Ok I’ve found the file, I’ll let you know if it restores the video in post

Post count: 112

I’ve done the change from http to https:// in the file you suggested and that has got the vimeo and the youtube videos to appear in the posts.

No featured image is being generated for the post from the video embed though, should the theme do this or do I have to do this manually? If I don’t add the featured image the content area on the homepage is blank, just the post title shows

The original problem I had was that when I add the featured image myself it will show on the front end and it will have the video play icon on the top but when I try and add this to facebook or twitter there wasn’t an image from the post included in the preview and no image displays in the facebook/twitter post. I have tried to add the image separately in the social media panel in yoast SEO and this now seems to be working although further testing is required.

I have just had a look in my media gallery and 3 new images have been generated for a previous post, they are entitled “max res default” and they are 700 kB 3000 Ă— 1775, this is rather large and excessive, is the theme going to generate 3 x these images every time I attempt to add a video or is there some kind of conflict going on with me adding a separate featured image when the theme is now trying to generate an image from the video?

I’d like to know as it’s not going to very good for my server resources if we keep generating 2100kb of unwanted images every time I try to post a video.

Let me know your thoughts

For anyone else out there who is using an SSL certificate, you will have to change this

http://screencast.com/t/SBYbxxnG4n

This screencast is from a question I asked on here 2 months ago, I got the correct answer in a way but you need to change all of the URLs in the code not just the 3 that are indicated in the screen grab, there quite a few of them that need to be changed and there are 3 at the bottom of the screen which are easy to miss.

Are there any other http to https:// changes I need to make to get the theme to run smoothly with SSL?

I noticed in

/includes/modules/td_module_single.php

some of the social buttons are in http should I go and change these to https??????

May this be the answer to the problem I am seeing with the facebook sharing? The facebook button is http but some others are https://

Will this be included in future updates or will I have to change these files every time we update? The issue was pointed out a couple of months ago.

I appreciate we are probably in the minority using site wide SSL but this is only going to get more common as people follow Googles lead

I love the theme and would greatly appreciate your feedback

Looks like I’m on my own with this?

Note the support hours from TagDiv, top right this page.
They are closed weekends.

I don’t work here, just helping out (I am actually migrating a site from 1.4 to 1.6 “right now” — and also migrating another site from Woo Canvas to 1.6 at same time). 🙂

Note that “most” stuff gets written to the rendered page as https via their if/then on a lot of code. It’s just a few stragglers. I only ran into it working on using 1.4-1.6 for our business site which is all https, but we only use WP for couple of things like a blog, and the new ecom system WooCommerce (moving from CubeCart 5). So, that was acid test for couple of things.

Since “most” people don’t run in https always on, many have not run into it. You and I are in the minority around these parts 🙂

AND, obviously, if you run Chrome browser, it will tell you if something isn’t loading over https in the error console. (Highly recommended!) — so, go to a page on your site, and if something isn’t https — it will tell you WHAT …. In my case one of the fonts for the admin panel wasn’t loading via https even though the codebase was there to do //google, it seemed to need “explicit” https://google to work right.

So, probably if you are doing what I call the “acid test” for your site in https, keep a note of those things, and send an email to Radu with all the “https/SSL” issues you have run into which need explicit https calls from external or internal elements. He *will* fix that in next update.

So, you and I are kind of the beta testers on this.

@unplug.tips I have the same issue with facebook, no pictures show. I found two ways to get it to work, run the url through facebook url debugger https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/

or put the link in the facebook status box, don’t hit post, refresh the facebook page, it will ask if you are sure you want to leave the page, click yes. Put the link back in the status box, some reason the featured image shows up the second time.

Not sure what is causing this

Hi,

Thanks Chris!

@unplug.tips
We’re sorry for the delay and for all the trouble you’ve experienced using the theme. I’ve checked your site and noticed that you’ve managed solve your issue.
Regarding the https/SSL issues please note that we will include them in the next version of the theme so you don’t need to worry about this and we’re sorry for this as we had it on our todo list but we’ve somehow missed it.
Regarding images please consider that the theme creates thumbs for all images you upload, so if you need to save your host resources then you can consider which thumbs/block you will use then turn the thumbs you don’t need off from theme panel: http://screencast.com/t/kVkTcpkcesU ..and use a plugin like Force Regenerate thumbs: https://wordpress.org/plugins/force-regenerate-thumbnails/ ..which will also remove the unnecessary thumbs.

@Kvr28
Usually Facebook doesn’t update your post new info right away so it would be best ti give it some time or use the debugger tool to fetch the new information: https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/

Thanks

Same https issue here, featured videos not showing.
Replaced all http > https in /wp_booster/td_video_support.php but still no videos. (cleared cache)

Any other options, or is update expected real soon?
Thanks!

Post count: 7909

Hi,

Please try this without any plugins active, leave just Visual Composer active, clear cache and purge your files if you use CDN.
Also please provide a link to the issue.

Thanks!

Hi,

I’ve got to read through the replies properly first to see what else I can do but I got in touch with A2 hosting and sent them the error details from my above message.

They have said that the first error is to do with fopen not being enabled on the server, I have asked them to do this for me as it is currently beyond my technical skill and will have to see if that solves the problem.

I have also altered the files mentioned above by fiftyfifty but the problem with video remains.

Could you please explain a little more about why the theme is generating 3 huge images from video image and dumping them in my media library? I’m not overly concerned about server resources as I will just delete them but I am concerned that 3 identical images totalling 2100kb have appeared for apparently no good reason, I know this is not normal as we have another site running the same theme with the same hosting provider and this does not happen. I don’t understand why the theme would do that?

I’m not sure what thumbnails are being generated so don’t know what you propose I disable these in the panel?

Isn’t disabling thumbnails in the panel to try and prevent this a bit like taking the tyres off of your car so that they don’t get worn? Surely the theme should be configured to take care of these issues before it is published, it is very basic functionality and I’ve never had a problem with this on any other theme.

I’ve also noticed in my efforts to do a work around for this problem that if I add the youtube URL to the top of the post so that it shows the video before any text in the post you see the youtube URL in the excerpt, this unfortunately,looks awful.

let me know your thoughts
