Our visual composer is hanging and not allow us to edit or add objects.
We spoke to the plugin devs and they said this:
“The issue is because there is a Visual Composer related code present in your theme added by the theme author. You will have to get rid of it. I would advise you to do so with the help of theme author, otherwise you might loose the extra elements added by him. Once this is done, you can install the standalone plugin and it will work fine. Kindly check.

Hi,
This is not the case as visual composer needs the code we added to work properly with our theme. Our code does not have this effect though .it does not break the plugin. This was a common issue they should know about and was created by the new version of wordpress. Please update your theme to the latest version by using this guide:
https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/ and then, please remove any version of VC you might have. Make sure you delete the files for it also from the plugins section and install the correct version which is bundled with our theme. Make sure you have version 4.11.2 of the plugin installed.
